Combining RAM

hi guys

i recently recieved a new computer. it came with standard 800 mhz ddr 2 ram. i was wondering if it was ok to combine this with the 1066 mhz ddr 2 low latency ram i bought from newegg. if it is possible, should i do it or should i just use the low latency like i planned all along?

thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Combining RAM

If you combine them, the faster RAM will run at the same speed as the slower RAM. SO for 'performance', you would want the faster RAM only.

However, there are times when a LOT of slower RAM will outperform a smaller amount of faster RAM.

Also, does your MB even support the faster RAM?

Re: Combining RAM

thanks

im just going to use the faster ram then, as i would prefer 4 gb faster as opposed to 6 gb slower.

ps. my mb does support the faster ram, its an amd 790fx.

Re: Combining RAM

You would probably improve your performance by having all 6GB running at 800MHz than 4GB at 1066MHz if you are using x64 Windows OS.

Re: Combining RAM

However, you can also try to overclock the 800MHz RAM to 1066

Just keep the latency low...
