Corsair TX850w buzzing sound =.=

Hi
I Just Recently Won A Corsair TX850w Over here at DH and its has been working fine for the last few weeks but today i hear a buzzing sound coming from the psu even when it is off until i pull the main plug out it stops
is it faulty?

in addition the sound comes and goes off

Something doesn't sound right you may want to PM Craig5320 or Zardon about it since it is a prize.

but before i pm them is it a serious problem? the buzz sometimes comes when i watch a video or play a game but its random ..

Could be a sign of a weakness in the regulation circuit best to mention it to them and see what they advise.

That seems to be a fairly common occurence with Corsair, and other PSUs running Intel processors.

There is a stickied thread on the Corsair support forum concerning that:

Buzzing Noise from power supplies - Possible solution - The Corsair Support Forums

Give that cure a try, it may work for you.

EDIT:

OOOPPPS I think that cure is only for when the system is running, not while off. There is another thread addressing buzzing when the system is off:

Interesting and thanks for the post OB I hadn't seen this. The second link concludes in an RMA BTW.

On the first I have had an HX-520 here for almost 3 years on various Intel and an AMD build and the only noise that has ever come from it is the fan.

Because this buzzing occurs when the system is off I am going with the second link you provided as toroidal transformers tend to buzz when defective or under extreme load.

@oldbuzzerd oh yea and the link u gave me i had the c1e and speedtrap disabled for now i dont hear any buzzing atm
ill do further checking and see if it still buzz =D

No worries but as you mentioned the PSU buzzed even with the system off until you removed the power plug. BIOS settings can't affect that ..

UHHHH....unless you flip the switch to turn off the PSU, or pull the power cable, there is still current going to the BIOS. That's why you need to have the power completely disconnected if you want to clear the CMOS. So, a BIOS setting COULD have been the cause of the 'buzzing'.

it's probably a coil or a capacitor in the PSU... most probably a coil...

it's probably nothing to worry about, these sorts of things happen with cheaper PSUs all the time, the coil is probably not wound up correctly or not in it's right position, so the high voltage passing through it makes the coil oscilate...

in any case, since the PSU is under guarantee, you might want to think about an RMA...

dosent that mean it should buzz all the time?
my problem is weird i rarely get the buzz but it irratates me and at random times and usually get for 2-5 min
i even run furmark but i could not hear any buzzing sound also ran occt but same no buzz
only sometimes during gamming or watching video on youtube i could hear the buzz
but that does not explain why furmark or occt makes no buzz and the game makes a buzz
is it that my power socket has dirty power flowing ?

The Fan died on my HX1000 PSu a while back and I posted the problem on the Corsair forum and I was given an RMA number, sent off me dodgy PSU and recieved a replacement in about a weeks time.

Just post something over on the Corsair forum in the PSU section and the PSU guy will sort it out for you.
