CPU-Z...what does this mean?

Can someone tell me exactly what speed my RAM is operating at? I have XMP Support enabled with my voltage at 1.65v and my timings at 8-8-8-24 1T. When I adjust the memory ratio from 8 to 12, the board automatically resets it to 8. WTF?

If you click on the MEMORY tab it will tell you what speed your memory is running at. The other figures are what it says in the JEDEC data from off the chips they can run at based on the different frequency settings i.e. 444Mhz , 593Mhz etc...

Yours must be PC-10305 then from those figures

Nope. I'm running Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 in triple channel.

Your memory is running at 642Mhz like the picture on the right says and that equates to around PC10305 but PC16000 should be 800Mhz as the picture on the left says.

maybe set your voltage at 1.8 im not sure but minds reading the timmings right at 5-5-5-18 voltage at 1.8v up the voltage to see if that helps not sure if it will but you can try it...i hope it helps..

Is your motherboard a Dell issue? If so they may have hidden some BIOS settings related to this, if not then check your BIOS and see if there's some frequency tweaks available.

It's an MSI motherboard, made specifically for the Dell 730x, with a Dell BIOS as well. I can increase my memory speed if I increase my BClk (base clock) from 160 to 200 (200x8=1600) but I'd rather not crank my CPU up that high.

Yeah! I hear you..... it could be the Dell Bios that's causing this... not bashing the brand mind you, it's just common for them to not allow the highest speeds for "safety" reasons..... all the major system builders tend toward doing this type of thing.

Specifics I can't help you with as my gear is stone-age compared to yours, and most others on DH. Can you crank up the BClk speed a little and get it to stick? Or is it not handled in small increments.

I can adjust the straps and speeds on both this ASUS and Gigabyte board to compensate for settings like that. Your memory speeds should be relevant to the NB and not effect your CPU speed.

Well, since my memory multiplier doesn't do shit for my memory speed, in order for me to increase the speed I have to increase the FSB of my CPU. Fucked up, eh?

i sure wish i had intimate knowledge of an i7 system..... just wondering, what if you lower your CPU multiplier down by one and bring your base clock up...? would that help? most non EE chips can at least lower their multipliers

Hi, try playing with the uncore multiplier. Uncore needs to be double the memory... when its not double the memory will look like its limited and that changing the memory multiplier settings doesnt do anything.

So if you get 1600mhz via a 12xMem multiplier (12x133=1600) you would want 3200 on the uncore via 24x133. (i would also suggest trying to save the uncore multi, then go back into the bios to set the memory)

Also, you may want to manually set 2T before you select 1600/800.

And in response to another post... stick with 1.65v. You dont need more that that on triple channel kits unless you want to heavily overclock them... even 2000mhz tri-channel kits run at 1.65 on i7.

What I had to do was lower my CPU multiplier to 16, increase the BClk to 200, disable Turbo Tech, and increase the IOH voltage from 1.10 to 1.15. While this did work, I noticed that it made my CPU run 2-3C higher than normal.

Sounds like a good and simple enough method to do it. Intel moved the memory controller into the CPU on the i7 so there's a slight difference in heat accumulation compared to the earlier cores.

Yeah that is a little confusing. But I will leave the harrasment about owning a Dell out

lol. In any case I think that there must be something in your BIOS that will not allow over a certain memory speed either based on your proc or something. Thats the usual reason for memory not moving up.

Hey, now! lol This 730x performs like a well oiled machine, even if the BIOS is jacked.

I was speaking with another 730x owner and he has the Core i7 965. He said that he didn't have to adjust anything that his OCZ Platinum DDR3-1600 automatically began running at the correct speeds. I'm guessing my memory clock probably has something to do with my CPU being the Core i7 920.
