I built a new computer for a neighbor's son who is heading off to college in a couple of weeks and the Gigabyte X48-DQ6 that I installed had it's Lan ports stop working while I was updating windows. They now do not work at all over at my neighbor's house. I can find no indication of what the trouble is. Under the Network Adapters in the Device Manager they show as functioning correctly. The motherboard was one out of my last computer build and I gave to my neighbor because he been such a good friend over the years. Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas on what I can try to get the Lan ports working again? If there is some info I forgot to mention please ask.

i would try to restore the system to a restore point prior to windows updates being installed. if that dont help try a fresh install but locate and install the driver for the onboard nic first from the Gigabyte downloads and ignore any potential network card updates from Windows update

if the LAN driver was updated, a driver rollback would be another idea...

or if that doesn't work, you could google around for an older version of the same driver...

(one of the reasons i don't do live updates... )

Thanks for the replys, guys. One quick question. Would uninstalling than reinstalling the Lan drivers do any good?

Well that turned out to be very simple. I uninstalled the two Lan ports in the Device Manager and then rebooted the computer. When windows came back on it found the Lan ports and installed the drivers. Everything is working perfectly now.
