Looking for a 1TB external HDD for £70 (UK)
I want an external HDD, preferably 1TB, to save all my downloads to. Looking at spending about £70. Was looking on scan.co.uk - Computer Hardware - All - Hard Drives - Ext. - Scan.co.uk
What brands are considered the best? Anyone know of any bargains going on? Thanks. |

Re: Looking for a 1TB external HDD for £70 (UK)
Seagate HDDs have a reputation for being the most reliable, but no HDD manufacturers had any real issues during the past few years. I'd buy this one if I were you:
1TB Seagate Expansion ST310005EXD101-RK, Piano Black, External USB2 Hard Drive, 7200rpm - Scan.co.uk Which has a better (direct) warranty and is among the cheapest you can get. |

Thanks for the reply. I won't have any issues with overheating, will I? It'll just be sat on top of my desktop box...

Re: Looking for a 1TB external HDD for £70 (UK)
The Western Digital Elements has a metal shell which I prefer when it comes to these 3.5" drives. The preceeding gray design had some problems with the failure rate of the power supply that also used an unusual connector to the housing, making it difficult to replace with something else. But they have improved on that now with the black model.

Re: Looking for a 1TB external HDD for £70 (UK)
I've had good experiences with this LaCie model: Newegg.com - LACIE Design by Neil Poulton 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 301304U - External Hard Drives We bought around 20 of them at the office and they've performed pretty well. Only about $100 us (60 pounds uk).
I don't know if you can find it in the uk for that cheap though. I'd say you're fairly safe going with a WD or Seagate though. They generally have high performance and reliability. |

I think I'll go for the Seagate one from Scan. Thank you for the replies.
