Computer problems!!!

Hello everyone! Recently, I've started to have problems with my computer. I'll get BSOD for a few reasons. one is for "response from secondary processor in alotted time interval" or something to that affect, and when I looked it up, the most common fix for it was to update your BIOS. I haven't been able to find my BIOS though, any suggestions? Or anything else I can do to help fix my computer. Because I'll be playing a game or doing a lot of processes and it will just crash. It's getting very annoying.

Specs:
Mobo: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2N32-SLI DELUXE 1.XX
CPU: 3.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
Graphics card: nvidia 9800 GTX
4 GB ram

you can find your motherboard BIOS here select your product through the prompts and then the OS (which really doesn't matter a whole lot for a BIOS) and then you should be able to download a BIOS from that screen.

I downloaded the drivers ( I think) they're a .bin file, what do I with that?

Use the bios tool to flash the bios-
it is in the file right under where you got the bios.

But the best and easiest way would be to use the built-in Asus "EZ-flash" in the bios itself- it's under the tools tab. Make sure you have the new bios file on a floppy and save your current bios just in case you need it in the future.
just be sure to take it slow and follow directions completely.
Do not disturb the computer while the bios is being flashed or it may become useless.

Not too sure if the Ez-flash tool works on that board though.

Best bet would be to create a bootable floppy disc, put that bios bin file along with the Phoenix Award BIOS flash tool on the floppy disc, boot from that disc, and then flash the bios using that tool (the command will be something like awdflash.exe nameoffile.bin). You could try the Ez-Flash, or the Asus Update tool however (you will need to search their site in order to find it though... look under the A8N SLI board listing as I know for sure it's there).

I have the board and the EZ Flash program in Windows is a joke.

Take 5 minutes to install on a USB drive, restart the computer, the computer will auto boot to USB and run the Flash utility built-in the BIOS. 1/5 on the difficulty scale. No worries.

yeah, I tried the EZ Flash, and it didn't find my update or anything, so I guess that's out. I don't have a floppy drive in my computer, so I'll have to do the USB thing. What do I do to get the USB set up? I have a jump drive if that's what you're talking about

You'll need a utility that can format a jump drive into a bootable drive. HP has a utility that can do this for you right HERE. Or, you can trick Windows into allowing you to create a boot disk even for removable drives using Windows Enabler from HERE. With Enabler "on" when you go to format the USB drive it still shows the option for creating a boot disk as greyed out, but if you click on the greyed out box it will enable, and that will allow you format the USB pen. I know this works for XP, but I can't say for sure about Vista or Windows 7.

You don't need to make it a bootable drive. It will startup the BIOS utility automatically if its plugged in when you turn on the PC, or you can just go into the BIOS and the utility should be in the last TAB on the right. Once the utility loads, choose your drive, find your .ROM file, and presto.

The only thing with the EZ-Flash within the bios that concerns me is if the bios you are flashing has EZ-Flash updates in it. Let's say with this motherboard that the bios is dated before version 2001. That bios has EZ-Flash updates in it (as would subsequent versions), and if the current bios is older than ver 2001 then you will not want to use the EZ-Flash utility in the bios as the flashing will usually fail, or on rare occasions pooch the system (requiring a recovery via the crashfree recovery option).

As for the first option you mentioned, this, or a bootable disk seem to be the better way. However, for the method you suggested, I think you need to make sure that the bios is renamed as bios.bin (or bios.rom.. can't remember which), correct? And used on a USB drive smaller than 8GB?

I've never had to rename the BIOS file before. Yes it is a .ROM format. I don't believe the size matters...and no, that's not what she said.

I've only used a 1gb or smaller thumb drive so not too sure. I wouldn't see why a larger thumb or external drive wouldn't work.
