Hello. I am having problems trying to install particular software DVD's I think because of DRM installed in them. Recently I upgraded from an IDE DVD Drive to an AOpen Sata DVD Drive and I've found that certain DVD's software and games now won't install off the DVD anymore. The programs I am having problems with so far are mostly anything old on CD pre Vista, Photoshop Elements installs, but won't run, Office 2007 won't install, Call of Duty 4 won't recognize DVD. Now I know it's not my hardware cause everything else works perfectly. So I won't be going back to IDE. Instead I'll just phase out software that wasn't "designed" for Sata and be done with it. Sacrifice goes a long way and I love hardware so. Bring it on!!

Is that legal software?

I have tried very old discs (that predate windows 98) and they are arecognised just fine. They don't r un because they are 16bit code, but they are recongised lol.

You can always try to rip the discs on the hard drive and try from there.

No, not copied stuff, brand new off of store shelf. Maybe ripping to hard drive would work for old stuff, maybe, but I doubt it, but as for Office 2007, Photoshop and Call of Duty 4 I don't there is any hope whatsoever.

Well I never heard before of a SATA drive not coping with DRM, so, have you considered that it might be a model issue?

That is kind of strange.

I know that IL2 1946 has issues installing in Vista if you try to install it the normal way using the Setup.exe file. The work around for it is to install it using A.exe which is the actual installer, which bypasses the DRM. But that is an OLD game.

What puzzles me is that you say OFFICE 2007 won't install. That's new enough that it shouldn't have issues.

I wonder if you have a REGION CODE incompatability.

I figured out that copying to a backup drive and installing from there fixes it. It's all working now. And I love my DVD Drive so it's not going anywhere.

Yeah you did. Thanks man. SO anyone else had DRM issues that they'd prefer to discuss.
