Is Red a new version of Purple?

Impressive.

Are you going to capture and edit in 4K or much lower?
I think you should be ok with 1080p, but the other higher settings are just way beyond anything I have touched.

Don't get me wrong, you have a beast there, I just can't possibly give an advice for that level.

Re: new Computer Build for Red and 2k Editing, Autodesk Maya,WCG/BOINC

i have no experience with what you are doing, but i can help you fix some stuff up with that list.

that case, i have to say is designed pretty badly..... expensive as well, the way it cools components is strange and redundant.

i recommend the Silverstone Raven RV02
Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE RAVEN RV02-BW Matte black 0.8mm Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

its just alot simpler to use.

if you dont have to watercool, dont. especially if this is something that is rather critical to have a reliable system. a pair of quality heatsinks in the RV02 is a safer solution

the power supply is good, though a bit excessive.

the motherboard though, doesnt use SLI (nor do any other dual 1366 boards at this time)

so depending on how the cards are going to be used, you may want to just save some money and buy a single HD 5870 GPU or use the money instead for a real Tesla or Quadro Card.....

if i remember right, the Quadro and Teslas score several times better than their consumer counterparts in what they do

I don't think i'm going to go near 4K i'm not really sure what kind of setup would be able to handle 4k Video at a budget of 6,000$USD all will be 2k and lower.

WOW The Silverstone Raven RV02 Looks like a good case i like the whole 90-degree angle and it has a good base for good air flow i just hope i dont have a mod it to take all 12 WD RE3 hard drives.

on using the CoolIT WS 240 Nehalem Liquid Cooling kit for the dual intel Xeon 5520 cpus. i wanted to use that because with three gtx 285 cards and 12 hard drives the air i think would get more heated. if you know any better options other than the coolit let me know.

last the TYAN S7025 motherboard is certified as a Tesla Personal Supercomputer it can take 4 NVIDIA Tesla C1060 cards. the motherboard has four full double wide 16x Slots that run in 16x. i would think it would support the three GTX 285 cards which it still cheaper then getting one Quadro 4800 or 5800 card.

What about WC blocks for the 285's? Since you also have WC for the CPU's...

The EK-FC285 for example. Three 285's is a lot heat...

well thats a bit more involved then what i would like to get in to with water cooling. i just wanted something that was simple and getting water blocks for the GPU cards to much of a hassle unless there is a simple option that i could look in to feel free to let me know.

and for the Raid Card i picked out would that be a good option for me i want the most speed i could get out of the hard drives.

Edit....... EK-FC285 i know is good but that would mean i would have to setup my own water cooling setup if there is a kit i could get that would cool both cpus and the three video cards tell me or what parts would be the best to get it running if i do that.

Re: new Computer Build for Red and 2k Editing, Autodesk Maya,WCG/BOINC

TJ07 designed bad?!!? It is possible the best case on the market even 2+ years after its release.

Now for CPU cooling. There is no reason for watercooling w/ only two CPU's. You won't be overclocking the CPUs and w/ a good air cooler things will still remain quiet. Go w/ a pair of Cooler Master Hyper212+. They'll remain cool, and you won't notice much of a system temperature increase.

Why the 3 GTX285's? Unless you are gaming, there is no point w/ going w/ so many videocards. Unless your apps support CUDA (and multi videocards at that), there is no point spending so much on videocards.

The RocketRAID 3520 is at least 2 years old. The LSI 9260-8i is a much better choice. Higher seqential read/writes. Plus the RAID6 engine is far superior. Newegg.com - LSI LSI00198 PCI Express Low Profile SATA / SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) MegaRAID SAS 9260-8i Single - Controllers / RAID Cards

well yeah i will not be over clocking the CPUs since intel 5520 chipset bios does not have over clocking options so i guess i will not use that water cooling kit for the CPUs. i guess that leaves some room for water cooling the GPUs.

i wanted 3 GTX 285 cards to do Folding and help with rendering and converting using Cuda apps.

the only reason i picked the rocket raid was becasue i have a 2300 in my setup i have now that does a good job. i will look in to the LSI LSI00198 looks like it has good read and write speeds which i need to do 2k Video editing.

thanks for all the help on this setup i want to get it write the first time...

Do BOINC/WCG support folding w/ CUDA?

I water cool my 3870 X2 with a Koolance block. Here's a link to their GTX 285 block.

Hmm, watercooling may not be the best option in this case. What about 2 GTX295's with the Single PCB?
Still a lot of SP's and like the same price. Or three GTX260's or 275's. Price is low (resp 170 dollar and 210 dollar) while the 285 is like 330.

Mugen 2 for your CPU's may also be a nice option. They are quiet and their cooling capability is quite well. I don't know if 2 of them can put together side by side.
