strange computer problem
Trying to turn my computer on and my monitor will not come on. Everything is coming on the mobo. I have tried several video cards, even tried my back up HDD. Gf said it was working fine until a storm come through and the pwer went off. Green light starts blinking on my monitor after a short time.

Re: strange computer problem
first thing, remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 2 to 3 minutes.
if possible, try ALL of your system critical components (PSU, video card, RAM, CPU) in another motherboard to see if they work in another board. if they do, then your board is dead. if ANY one of these components does not work, then you know it's that system component that's causing this. also, unplug any unnecessary fans or coolers. only the CPU and North Bridge fans should be powered up. case fans need to be unplugged from where ever they're plugged into. for a system not powering up like you are describing, this is really the only thing you can do for testing. |

Re: strange computer problem
keep at it then. try the PSU, CPU, and RAM next if these parts are available. or try these same parts, including your gfx card, in another machine if possible.

Re: strange computer problem
Seems to rule out the monitor...... Do you have a different PSU you can try?

Re: strange computer problem
It's mostly to point out a mobo issue, if a good PSU has the same fault then it's mobo/agp slot problem. If it works with the good PSU then part of yours went down. Easier to find a spare power supply than a mobo usually, that's why I asked.
With the system's reaction to the CRT monitor I think your LCD may not be the problem.

Re: strange computer problem
sounds like its going to be a psu or mobo....it was working fine until the storm. power went off and when it come on, is when it quit working. according to my GF.

Re: strange computer problem
Many power outages due to storms begin with a huge spike, way over voltage. Unless your system is on an isolation transformer something's going to get burnt. (most UPS's are okay too) Those little power strip/"surge protectors" most people have really don't do much for this.
Living in Ohio I learned long ago to shut it off, unplug and wait for the storm to pass. You wouldn't believe the burnt stuff that used to come into the shop a day after a storm.
