best HDD transfer rates

For purposes of backing up a non-system partition, would it go faster to copy disk to disk in Windows Explorer instead of using Ghost from virtual DOS partition?

I thought I read something sometime where Win32 disk access is quicker than DOS 16 bit. I can't seem to find anything on that anymore.

Re: best HDD transfer rates

Ja mon.

I don't know if it makes a difference with SCSI HDD's. My understanding is that wide negotiation uses 16 bit transfer for a max of 40 MB/sec on my 2940 UW adapter. So I wasn't clear on any performance benefits to protected mode disk.sys disk access (as opposed to using real mode aspi8dos.sys disk access).

Apparently you must be right about that, because the format using the disk management tool goes at light speed compared to glacial ice ages at the command prompt.

Re: best HDD transfer rates

should be considerably faster within a modern OS system using true UDMA specially on ATA 66 or better connected drives.
