Re: Cheap build

Hi guys. Thanks for all the help. Im going dual core.

Iwe gotten a core 2 duo e 6550 for under 80 $, a 8800gtx for under 80 $

Both used..

Im planning on getting another 8800gtx for sli, at the same price or a little higher.

for ram im going with a 800 mhz mushkin 2x2gb kit priced at 70$.

The question is what mobo, im gonna get.
Im standing between ASUS P5N-E SLI or ASRock N7AD-SLI.?

Don't get a 650i. This is really a bad choice.

Why have you spend that much money on old hardware? You should better got an Sempron 140 which is unlockable and a cheap 780G board.

Because you can unlock it

I know about the SLI, but for 8800GTX's in SLI you still need a good PSU. So you may want to upgrade your PSU (or did I've missed something?)

And the only good SLI motherboards have a high price. 650i has two 8x PCIe 1.x ports when you enable SLI. That's a real downside because you miss a lot of performance.

Re: Cheap build

I wont be buying the second 8800gtx emidiatly, and i couldn't resist the 8800gtx, i bought it from one of my friends, and i got it for about half the price than they normally go by used, in DK. I might actually earn on it by selling again. But aint gonna do that.

And the core 2 duo is half price of what it cost at the retailers here.

Re: Cheap build

At least you are happy with it, that's one thing

You know that the failing ratio of the 8800GTX is really high? A lot of cards are falling like dead birds from the sky () So the chance is big that you can't get a good GTX anymore by then.

As for the motherboard: a G31 chipset bases motherboard is really good. I have one and you have a lot of functions. Only 1 PCI-e slot, so you can't add another 8800GTX, but the price is often really low.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad stuff, but maybe you should get better.

I don't really know the prices in DK so it's hard to make decesions :P

Re: Cheap build

the asrock n7ad-sli is 100$. the Asus P5n-e is like 105 $ or something. There are only 2 p41 and they are just above 80 $. and 2 650i one at 120 $ and one just short of 300 $. The 750i is between 120$ and 160 $.

I just saw the EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW. it costs 160 $. I might just have fallen in love.!!:P

Re: Cheap build

Well fact is that a 750i is better choice in this situation. Although also a 8x/8x configuration during SLI mode this board has PCI-e 2.0. So you don't really have bandwith loss, which comes in handy

I should pick the 750i if I were you (and if you want to add another 8800GTX later)

On a sidenote: When you're running two 8800GTX's then your CPU (E6550) is really a bottleneck. So you may want to overclock it.

Re: Cheap build

Hi. I have just gotten some new options. I might be able to sell the core 2 duo for nearly 85 $, so in order to save money im considering to go amd.

Im thinking of going with the Asus M4n72-e mobo and buying a sempron 140 and unlocking it. That would be a fair deal cheaper and might perform better.

Whats your opinion on this??

Re: Cheap build

I wouldn't do it. Even successfully unlocked, the Sempron wouldn't be much faster than the E6550 you already have.

What about the New Athlon chip?

I guess I don't see where your pricing range is varies, So I don't really know how to suggest options, but Core 2 duos are really becoming obsolete, so I recommend future proofing as much as possible....

Re: Cheap build

$100 will net you an Athlon II X4 620. Yum!

You can pick up an AM2+ 790 Gigabyte board and the above chip for a little over $200.

As for the P5N-E SLI, I'm running it right now and it's kind of picky. It wouldn't post because it didn't like my memory and then all of a sudden did after resigning myself to an RMA. It also runs VERY hot. I have active cooling on the northbridge and I still can hardly touch it.

It's a good budget board but you'll hit an overclocking wall because of the board, not the chip.

My poor little E2180. It tops out at 3Ghz no matter what I do and I know it has more love to give but no way to give it.

Re: Cheap build

What do you think about the board i picked? I've read a review ón it and they said it was good.

Any as for any suggestions, it has to be able to do sli and as cheap as possible but still within reasonable performance.

Re: Cheap build

SLI on AMD boards is becoming rarer and rarer now. Is there even any recent SLI capable AM3 motherboards? I think you're mostly limited to Crossfire for multi-GPU choices on AMD boards nowadays.
