??? Attention needed...ASAP

Okay, I have a serious problem that I hope someone can shed some light on. On Thursday night, one of my Raptor hard drives died on me, or so I thought. For the longest time, I could hear one of my drives winding down as though it had lost power. On Thursday night, I was browsing the web and Mozilla suddenly stops working. Then, AVG reports that an error has occurred and it shuts down, along with several other programs. Upon checking My Computer, the drive has disappeared. The only thing I had to do was reinstall my program files because my OS and everything else is on other drive(s). The drive is under warranty until May of 2012 so getting it replaced won't be an issue. However...since removing the drive that disappeared, I can now hear ANOTHER drive doing the same thing. I'm sure it's possible, but I find it unlikely that (2) Raptor drives would die so close together, if in fact they are. I'm wondering if something is going wrong with my PSU, or...?

Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Attention needed...ASAP

You have another PC where you can test the drive in?

How long do you have the config like this?

The problems could be as wide as the grand canyon

Do you have an antivirus software installed

Re: Attention needed...ASAP

Could be a motherboard problem. IIRC that's what happened to me years ago when drives kept dying on me. Could also be the PSU. Looks like your PC is rather new, and I wouldn't have expected problems, but it's possible that something went bad.

I agree that it's worrying, and I'd suggest you back up whatever you can first. I don't know if testing the drive in another PC will help, but perhaps you could try just to verify it's dead.

I really don't know what to tell you. If you can, try to replace your motherboard and PSU. That'd probably solve the problem. However, proving what the exact problem is may be a little problematic.

I think Bolletje means have you made any recent changes, software or hardware.....

Try the drive in your GF's system see if it works, and if you hear another drive doing the same I would suspect PSU. Especially if the "dead" drive proves to be okay elsewhere.

Yes, because if you have changed something recently then that's often the cause of your problem.
