Looking for a good 24" lcd. Gaming is secondary
So I'm looking for something with the best color- a "natural" look. Mainly for photo editing, some video and gaming but those are less important. I believe I want an IPS panel but I do not understand the differences between h-ips and s-ips. I just need info and maybe specific suggestions. Thanks. Budget is not a huge issue, as a large portion of time with this will be work related.

Re: Looking for a good 24" lcd. Gaming is secondary
I have always used LG displays. Even the cheap ones give nice bright and vivid images. If money wasn't a consideration I would probably entertain one of these.
LG Wide LCD Monitor - LG Global Site An RGB LED display that displays well over 100% of colour gamut. Over a thousand pounds I will wait until proper OLED displays are an affordable reality.

I am pretty pro samsung lately myself, their quality is top notch, and apple uses their LCDS for their cinema displays.

A couple of those are TN and definitely won't make the cut. Are dell panels made by LG?
Pretty much everywhere I've found, manufacturers and retailers alike are HORRIBLE at showing full specs. Panel type and color gamut are so often left off. |

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER P2570 Glossy Black 24.6" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 70000:1(1000:1) - LCD Monitors
Bam, great price, sure it's flimsy, but that's cuz it's thin baby. For that PRICE though, you CANT GO WRONG. Also menu options in Samsung I have noticed to be far superior, the contrast is fine for photo editing. Last edited by SeraphicSorcerer; Nov 21, 2009 at 01:28 AM. |

Re: Looking for a good 24" lcd. Gaming is secondary
I believe the colors are great. However, GTG means Grey-t-Grey (Not sure if you knew that) but that's actual more useful then the standard pixel response measurement. Most likely it is "Twisted Nematic" But considered almost all displays except Cinema Displays are TN you're going to pay a pretty penny for it, You could go for a LED backlight, which would eliminate your problem completely. (But also drive your price over 1000.
Samsung makes them but I can't find them on new egg atm. (They're all deactivated) However. The monitor in question has great contrast, and awesome color, I don't know about you, but usually changing the color or gamma, for photo editing helps correct any issues. However, the color controls are very responsive (and show immediately) Newegg has GREAT customer service however, and if the monitor doesn't work normally you can exchange it and just ask them to not charge you the Restock (because it wasnt what you expected etc. (I also have better luck calling them, but online support is good to.) fee etc esp if you exchange, one of things I LOVE about them. As far as this display however, for the PRICE it's GREAT. The ultra sharp seems very expensive, And I can't find who is making their actual LCD, I know like I said, apple cinema displays are made by Samsung. But Dell seems to switch their manufacturers. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB382LL/A Apple has switched to LED as well recently. As you can see. ![]() I'd pick up one but dont have 900 to drop for a monitor. |

Re: Looking for a good 24" lcd. Gaming is secondary
If you can afford it I'd go with the Dell U2410 (IPS panel), or if you choose something else make sure it has either PVA/MVA or IPS panel type - TNs generally don't have as good colour. In terms of visual quality generally TN < PVA/MVA < IPS so keep that in mind. (Unless you're professional though the difference between PVA/MVA and IPS probably isn't that major.) The Dell looks extremely good though, IPS with 6ms response time making gaming/movies not out of the question
Also, if you really want good colour, you could invest in a calibration device/try to calibrate it manually, it will make a difference in terms of colour accuracy (I have a Samsung 226BW atm, had to set blue WAY down as it has a strong blue cast, it's a TN though).
