24hz HD playback from your PC to your HDTV?

When watching Blu-rays on my PS3 there's the option to output 24hz playback and my TV supports this so it automatically switches to this and it looks great.

With my PC hooked up via HDMI to my tv it outputs in 60hz as the default. Should I force it to use 24hz output instead? Does this achieve the same effect?

I tried it and there have been a few issues. For instance, mkv's that used to run smoothly really chug and the controls are unresponsive when I view them in 24hz on the HDTV. I had to output in D3D Fullscreen in media player classic to get smooth playback. Also, I've had several BSOD since using this method. My tv is 720p but the only way I can get 24hz playback to work is with 1920x1080 resolution, is it possible to get 24hz with 1280x720?

These are the settings I'm using now in MPC HC

24Hz is definitely possible in CCC.
