Marvell SATA/RAID Controller Driver Needed

So, my boss gave me a small NAS server a few weeks ago and he said i can keep it so long as it works. well, it works and everything, but i'm missing one driver for it. it's a Marvell 88SX5080 driver. seeing that it's a product of my company, i checked out the website and then i checked out the parent company website after i saw that my company's website didn't have any drivers to download. The parent company does have all of the other drivers as well including the Marvell driver i need. i downloaded the driver from the webpage, but when i went to install it, it said it needed a MVSATA.SYS file. The folder contents of this driver only has MVSATA.INF files. Ok, no problem.

So, i checked Marvell's website to download the driver, but no cigar! It appears this part/chipset is no longer supported by Marvell and they don't even appear to have a legacy drivers section anywhere!

It's not been about 3 hours since then, and i've been googling every possible combination of wording i can think of to find an FTP or an HTTP download source for this particular driver with no avail. Which now leads me to make this post, lol.

Since this is a product of my company, imna ask my boss tomorrow morning if there is a driver available for this thing anywhere. If so, imna share it here, lol.

Not too sure if this will work for you, but I know that THIS driver does support that particular chip. I think I got this link when I was looking for a driver for an Intel Server board. I know that the particular file you were mentioning, MVSATA.SYS, is in that package.

that's the same file i d/led. and the link you gave me is from my company's parent company. i already have that file and it's what i've been using.

it has MVSATA.INF, not MVSATA.SYS.

Re: Marvell SATA/RAID Controller Driver Needed

That's what the error says though, right? Cuz the file itself is in there under the build\Windows folder. One for AMD64, and one for i386. In each of those folders are 3 others that appear to be build versions, but inside there is one labeled "free" with 3 files in each: mvsata.inf, mvsata.sys, and txtsetup.oem. If you are using these files on a floppy to install with, it could be that the txtsetup.oem file isn't formated right. One thing to try would be to rename the disk "MRVL".

BTW, what OS are you trying to use this on, and what setup? Not sure about the NAS box, but does it allow you to switch the type of controller setup you can use? Such as AHCI or RAID? I ask this cuz I think you have to set up the controller in RAID mode for that driver to work.

Re: Marvell SATA/RAID Controller Driver Needed

yea, i got it to work yesterday. i took the NAS box to work and asked my boss where the driver file is located at. and he told me pretty much what you told me just now, lol.

i put in an HDD afterwards to see if it would pick up, and sure enough a few seconds later the drive was showing up under my computer. This is my NAS unit. it's really neat, and i like how it supports RAID 0/1/5/10/JBOD. today i'll be putting it all together and get it set up for RDP finally
