Re: Gaming issue.....my hardware?
I skimmed through the post and didn't read that paragraph right.
Glad it's solved then. |

It seems that your BSODs were happening after a period of PC activity. As virtual memory was being used, Windows may not have been freeing up some of it and things were accumulating....thereby not allowing for anymore writing to the HDD....resulting in the BSODs. I know on my own systems, once HDD space goes below 10%, I start seeing some problems and warnings. So, I'd at least keep this in mind if things go downhill again. Notice in the BSOD: "Make sure you have enough hard drive space." Good luck! |

Re: Gaming issue.....my hardware?
I agree with Dyre Straits that some more room on the disks would be nice. When space is tight, defragmentation doesn't work as well. I imagine that you're not accessing all that data all the time, and could back some of it to DVD's.

Re: Gaming issue.....my hardware?
Thanks Dire and ET3D. I know I should put alot of it on DVD. I am always worried about that. I put pictures on a cd one time and after sitting for a length of time.....couple years, I lost some of the pictures and it was really hard to get the system to read the disc. I got most of them. I did burn two copies of the newest pictures(family pictures) on DVD recently, on a slow burn hoping that would increase quality of burn. Just haven't hit the old delete button yet. Music I could go ahead and burn, but I am always adding and would be a pain to reburn everytime. Especially since it takes a lot of discs. I have 30 GB of music and 34 GB of music videos. I know I could get an external HDD, but $ is not allocated for those expenses right now. I know it's gonna bite me in the butt one day.
Lol Dyre.....If you remember me, That 30 GB HDD is the one you gave me way back when I first signed up on DH with problems. I still have the same system as then and still running strong, after this little tune-up, lol. If you remember, I used Drivercleaner to try to wipe out my onboard ATI driver to install my NEW Nvidia Geforce 5500 FX 256 Video card. I failed and accidently erased the the windows drivers and everything. We salvaged it and I never lost anything thanks to you.....I still appreciate it to this day. ![]() I am going to free up some space....thanks guys |

Re: Gaming issue.....my hardware?
You're right about having discs (CD/DVD) lose data, happened to me, too. A lot of it depends on the disc brand, but I think it's a little better these days. Still, putting it on HD isn't a better solution. Hard disks can develop defects and lose your data. It's better to have a backup, and DVD is the easiest. If you're worried about losing your data, burn it again every couple of years.
