Re: new build...
Unless there is zero air flow in the case, I just can't see how the card will reach those temps at 70% setting. Try 100%. If it continues, then it is probably a hardware fault (and if indeed you can hear the fan working that fast=extremely noisy). When I set it at 60% the card might reach 80C under full gaming session, but 108C no, something is wrong.

Re: new build...
Take the cooler off the card, apply some new thermal paste and make sure it is secured correctly. If that doesnt make a difference it must have been damaged in shipping, we will get it replaced for you with something comparible, if not identical.

Re: new build...
I've already removed the two heat sinks and added more thermal paste , still no change. I will finally check the voltage at the 6pins and 8pins connector to make sure it doesn't overheat due to overvoltage .
Thanks Stu. This has been a serious headache. |

Re: new build...
Maybe the BIOS for the card is messed up? You can try reflashing it with the tutorial below. Did you install the ASUS SmartDoctor software to insure proper voltage?

Thanks man , I am trying it now. I also have checked the voltages on the 6pins/8pins and it is almost static @ 12-11.9V

Re: new build...
the only thing I can think is perhaps the Heatsink isnt making proper contact with the card. If your temps are still high, or the thermal grease on it is incredibly craptastic.
Are you comfortable checking that? |

Re: new build...
One heatsink gets really hot , it is the one over the gpu further from the fan , I think it is GPU 1 (right ?) , the other heatsink is not as hot as it.
I've added thermal paste to make sure it isn't cooling realated but still get the same issue. |

Re: new build...
From what I recall (and it kind of makes sense), the GPU further from the fan does get hotter (it's being cooled by the air that has already been used to cool one of the GPUs). The thing is, though, that if you can reach close enough to the place where GPU and the heatsink make contact, you should find the heatsink too hot to touch. 60C is already quite uncomfortable if you try to hold your hand on the hot object for more than a couple of seconds, and 80C, I believe, causes burns.

![]() In regards to the temperatures would it be worth investing in an aftermarket cooler?

Re: new build...
^The after market coolers can help reduce the temperature lots, but you need a case with decent air flow.
Some 4870x2 could get well over 90 degrees, but I expected the model you got to run a bit cooler. I would try 90% fan speed and maybe reseating that heatsink. |

Re: new build...
the sink was extremely hot , maybe 70-80c. I saw Zardon's review on the card and the temps were definitely better .

Are you still flogging that old case, or did you get better in the meantime?

. Yes I am still with this old ugly case until the 690 II arrives. No choices at the mean time.pics of the card , will play later. The noise can hardly been heard and the temps are around 40 c at idle @ 60% fan speed. HH is an awesome place.
