Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

I have been out of the loop for quite awhile and needing to upgrade my Intel desktop for general family use and some minor gaming, video editing, etc.

Have decided to simply purchase a retail package and need some opinions on the below since i want a rig that runs cool, is not proprietary like Dell, can easily be upgraded if desired, and comes with a large enough power supply to begin with.

Can anyone suggest something better in this price range for my needs?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229151

Posted this here since you folks building these Intel rigs are much more in tune with the current and past 6 months tech then myself.

Regards & Thanks for any replys !

Re: Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

I'd say those parts but buy them separately and build them yourself then bunk up the graphics card from the change of $900.

I'd pick something like:
  • SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SH-S222A - OEM
    Item #: N82E16827151175
  • Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
    Item #: N82E16811129066
  • Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    Item #: N82E16822136317
  • GIGABYTE GV-N26SO-896I GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Retail
    Item #: N82E16814125294
  • Diablotek PHD Series PHD650 650W ATX12V V2.2 Power Supply - Retail
    Item #: N82E16817822004
  • CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 - Retail
    Item #: N82E16820145260
  • ASUS P7P55 LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
    Item #: N82E16813131604
  • Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750 - Retail
    Item #: N82E16819115215
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM
    Item #: N82E16832116754
Give or take...

Not bad (follow above link), but my opinion is that GT220 is bad choice for that offer. Maybe some stronger GPU will find better place with that offer.

Re: Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

What do you folks think about this one below since the i7-860 cpu has hyperthreading and this package also includes the ATI 5750 video card?

I dont mind spending a little more for a better rig if you feel its worth it.
Also i dont feel like buying the parts and building it myself.

These days about all i care about is adding 4GB more ram and being able to easily replace any hardware components that fail in the future.

Newegg.com - CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1059 Intel Core i7 860(2.80GHz) 4GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 5750 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - Desktop PCs

I still need to purchase a nice 23 to 24" monitor to go with whichever of these rigs i buy !

Thanks for your help thus far in making my decision !

Re: Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

Honestly I'd still say build your own. Or if you don't want to, go find a local shop who will assemble it for you for a good price.

Personally, I like to know what's in my PC (especially the power supply) and as far as I know Cyberpower uses their own branded PSUs by default so it's kind of a stab in the dark as to what it actually is.

Also, if money is a concern you might want to look into AMD offerings. Matter of fact, an article was just released today that talked about the different CPU performances (Phenom, core 2, i5, i7) here. Link

Seeing how you're from Texas you might want to give this place a try Micro Center Inc. They seem to have relatively decent prices from my quick glance.

I agree since it would be nice to have a branded name like Antec for a power supply and WD or Seagate for a HD. These package rigs including Gateway, etc never tell you what your actually getting manufacturer wise in the parts used. With the above Cyberpower i agree since i dont know what Power supply, HD, MB, manufacturer their using !

Probably all junk from China !

Regards,

If you do end up getting a custom PC, I would highly suggest you get one of these Samsung 500GB Drives HD502HJ. Newegg

This is a single platter 500GB drive and performs very well. Tom's Hardware Comparison Look at the avg read and avg writes, pretty impressive stuff for $55.

Re: Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

If you're set on buying that cyberpower one (or any pre-built for that matter), I would buy a stable power supply and replace the junk PSU that the pre-built came with. It's not worth losing your whole system because pre-built systems tend to low-ball the voltage needed and like others have mentioned - usually a crappy no-name brand. I've had a PSU go bad and it took my CPU and motherboard with it, so definitely buy a decent brand.

I would also buy your own graphics card (unless you're cool with the 5750).

There are plenty of 24 inch monitors. If you're going to do video editing then you should avoid TN panels. Try looking into S-PVA, S-IPS, or H-IPS.

I's suggest taking AMD route , it will save you amount of money and still have great performance. Pick up Phenom II CPU plus Gigabyte MB , 5770HD , 4 GB ram , a nice Crosair PSU and Cooler master case (Elite is cheapest model) and WD 640GB Black Caviar.

I would never buy prebuilt computers.

Re: Need some PC Upgrade Opinions?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Your all right since it doesnt make much sense buying a pre-build when i wind up replacing half the hardware components in the case within 3 months.
