Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Neither. If you are going for a new card get an ATI 5000 series.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Well, I have the opportunity to get either one of those for free. So the choices are limited to those two...

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
do you like physx? i know the stock 250 is more power hungry @ load compared to 4850. not sure about the green

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
havent tried physx, yet.
the 4850 sonic requires an 8-pin PEG, while the gts250 green only one 6-pin PEG so I think the 4850 consumes more power at load... |

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
A quick search say both cards are comparable in specs, so it's a toss up...... If you are already running ATi, then why muck with drivers..... Stick with ATi. Yeah! I'm lazy that way.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
If both are essentially a toss up, the advantage of the GTS 250 Green edition is it alledgedly consumes less power...

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
If you have to go for either of them, I would go for the ATI one, but that is due to personal preference (over the last few years).
I doubt either one of them will be the best choice for gaming at 1920x1080 resolution, at least for the new games, but the price point is hard to beat.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
i m satisfied with palit 4850...but i guess u should consider ATI 5000 series...and yeah at 1920x1080 both card gonna suck....u need more power for tht resolution...u should consider HD5770.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Definitely GTS250, but you should know that 512 RAM is on the edge of smoothly gaming at the resolution 1920x1080 and highest details.
Good luck.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
I would've chosen the GTS250 myself if only I was offered the 1GB and standard variant. The Green edition is underclocked.

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Thanks, comp! Actually I can't use the card yet as my PSU only has 6-pin PEG cable and this card has 8-pin connector. Will get a 6-8 pin PCIe adapter tomorrow

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Not to sound demeaning but have you gone through the box completely? Generally the graphics card vendors will included an adapter for people that don't have a PCI-E power connection on their PSU.

@Cow -- still have to get an adapter, in the meantime the wife is playing Cafe World using the integrated graphic
![]() @ Takaharu -- This is an RMA unit. The previous owner didn't notice that when he received his replacement box, it didn't contain the 6-8 pin adapter. Anyway, a local store is selling one so I'll get one soon

Got the 6-8 pin adapter already for $4.40! Can't wait to go home in 5 hours and try out my 4850! (Hope my PSU can take it!)

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Yup! The PSU has been holding up quite well, comp! Installed the card, fired up the PC, installed 10.1 driver, and played COD4, 5, 6 and some other FPS. Run Furmark and 3dMark06 (got a jump from 5k to 10k score!) and the temps are at 40c idle and 60c at load!
But the 4850 is not for 1920x1080 monitor. OH, well. Time to save up for at least a 5770

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
I think it should be good for COD 4/5/6 even at 1080p , maybe it is bottlenecked by the E5200 , You might upgrade to some quad core .

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Yup, its bottlenecked by the E5200. I OC it from 2.5 to 3.5 when I game to help a bit.
Planning to move to i3 this year; I've read that it's as good as a Q6600... |

Re: 4850 or GTS 250 Green?
Good but why don't you move to i5 or something as quad core will soon be the minimum requirement for gaming.
