Value for money

I'm considering upgrading my secondary PC with a new graphics card so that I can claim back my second 4870 for my main PC but I'm not sure which card I'd prefer to get.
On the one hand I could get a third Sapphire 512MB HD4870 for just over £80, which would give me two of those in Crossfire in my main PC and one in my secondary.
Alternatively I could get an ASUS GTX275 for £160.

I'm not looking to get a 5000 series card just yet as they don't seem to be good enough performance for their price range. A 4870 can out-perform a 5770 from what I've seen and the 4870 is much, much cheaper. I don't play any DX11 games and don't intend to for what that PC's intended for. I'll upgrade my home PC GFX when I go to the Core i series (probably late this year or some time next year). The games I do play are about 1yr old or more but I might play the odd game due to be released (e.g.: C&C 4)

My secondary PC is as thus:
Phenom 2 X4 620
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE (1 PCI-E x16 slot)
2x Kingston 1GB DDR3 1333MHz HyperX Memory CL7(7-7-7-20)
Hi-Power 500W
Currently a Sapphire HD4870 512MB
LG TV running at 1650x1080

My main PC specs are listed in my profile.

Re: Value for money

If value for money is what you are looking for, then you are better off buying nothing at all. Stay with a single HD4870. This card can play any recent game at 1920x1080, usually with all visual settings maxed out. There is no reason at all to spend money on an upgrade.

Re: Value for money

How about getting a 1GB 4890 instead for your 2nd rig, if its still available?

Re: Value for money

i wouldn't bother upgrading unless it's necessary and the 4870 alone in your main rig is not enough for the games you play.

Re: Value for money

I bought Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing to hinder my budget. I'll upgrade my graphics when I upgrade the rest of my PC. Not all of my games I can crank up to max at 1920x1080 with AA but most I can.
