1 Year warranty on products but not actually 1 year?

So i sold a Acer x1160 Projector last year on may 30th 2009. the warranty period stated not only on the box but in the manual and on the registration states 1 year parts and labour warranty.

However today, i received a call from my customer stating their projector had been working earlier that morning and he shut it down and left for about 2 hours, when he came back, the standby power was off, and the projector was not responcsive, checked the connections and everything and not a bloody thing.

I checked it over myself, the bulb is great shape, i know the customer and he has taken EXTRA good care of it, keeping it clean and not allowing smokers even into his house.

The projector has been ceilling mounted it's entire lifespan. Ventilation and everything has been supreme.

So considering all the above and what we tried, proceeded to go to Acer's website and fill out the RMA/support form.

Only after punching in the registration info were we informed that it was out of warranty.

Odd, it's not May 30th 2010 yet...

"SMW-1 yr (MI or CI)" is the warranty code, which when i looked up IS based on the Customers PURCHASE date.

IF i sell a customer a new projector on may 30th 2009, the projectors warranty shouldn't be up as it was stated. However it states warranty end date as, October 30th 2009 That's only 5 months of warranty. Something is clearly wrong.

Anyone have suggestions? Kinda a saturday so phone support is kinda out of the question (if you can find a bloody phone contact)

Re: 1 Year warranty on products but not actually 1 year?

wait till monday and phone the company explaining the situation.. nothing else you can do really.

The title of the thread reminded me of something though. In holland you are giving a warranty of 2 years by law. So even if it breaks down earlier, the shop or whatever that sold you the thing has to replace it. Like with GFX cards..

Re: 1 Year warranty on products but not actually 1 year?

I've been running into this a lot lately. I even had to ream my fist down Samsung's throat to get anything done, and they are still giving me the run around.

Here's "the real" deal: 1 year warranty = 1 year from the manufacturers date, not date of purchase. Sometimes manufacturers have it so that the 1 year warranty starts the day it was distributed, which makes a bit more sense to me. I mean, it could have been sitting in their warehouse for a year, meaning it was out of warranty before they shipped it. Warranty terms such as this should be PLAINLY mentioned in the instructions, and not some vague "1 year limited warranty", or "for more information on the terms of this warranty please contact the manufacturer or see the reseller for more info" bull.

Judas, double check the manufacturers date on the unit. I bet it says October 2008, and if so, that is the date they're going by. Then, call Acer to get a real person (don't email them, or fill in that crappy site shit of theirs), be polite, and see if they'll replace it.

working on it..

calling acer and they've got "0" locked out or something cause it's giving me an invalid extension.. they really don't want you talking to anyone lol

I know some manufacturers starts the warranty the moment it's manufactured... but in those cases it's usually stated as such..

However the warranty code states customer purchase date....

Another trick I've noticed is that it's customer purchase date if you bought it from an authorized dealer, and manufacturers date if you bought it from someone other than an authorized dealer.

Or the new one Intel is pulling on me, if I don't buy 50 pieces of Intel product, be it CPU or their own boards, from Ingram or Intel directly, I don't get channel partner privileges. Sooo pissed of about that, because both charge $10-15 more for stuff. Not to mention that Ingram charges an arm and a leg for shipping now on orders less than a certain amount (we're talking in the thousands of dollars range). Mofos.

Re: 1 Year warranty on products but not actually 1 year?

Yup, considering i purchase at any given time 1-3 cpu's at a time build to order systems, i basically get near retail cost on that stuff minus the PST.

unless i order in several hundred or multiple thousands of dollars at a time.... they won't move on the price.

And i've got warehouse suppliers calling me from all over the country tell me what great deals they can make for me and unfortunately i leave them tripping on their lips after asking them basically "How long would it take for me to receive it, what would be the warranty be like, can i order in small quantities in the sub $2000?" with more details behind each.
