Gaming Keyboards

Okey dokey. My Saitek Eclipse II is starting to show signs of ware, so I'm in the market for a new gaming keyboard. I like the idea of macros but don't really need 150 of them, just a few will do.

The G19 is out simply because of price.

So I'm mainly looking at the G15 ver. 2, G110 and Sidewinder X6. I did consider the Razer range, but they seem limited in what extras they have for the bucks.

I'm leaning toward the G110 simply because of the red lighting option (which will match my sidewinder X8), and the red/blue/purple macro lighting, plus the software looks pretty powerful.

Does anyone have any hands on opinions. I've noted quite a few of you have G15's. Did you get yours when there was less options from logitech, or are they just that good?

Any help would be great.

Cheers
Iain

Re: Gaming Keyboards

If you're not too bothered about an LCD display you might consider adding the G11 to the pot - it's almost identical to the G15, just without the LCD display and more macro keys. Cheaper, too.
Of the gaming keyboards available I've only ever used the G11 so I can only give my experience of that. The keys are smooth and had no wearing through its constant use since I got it about 2yrs ago, the keys are very comfortable to the touch and the wrist-rest ensures that I don't have any wrist ache with prolonged use.

I won't put it before the others that you've mentioned but it may be another notable choice.

Re: Gaming Keyboards

The Razer Lycosta may be worth a look as well. It's much more of a no frills keyboard but still offers macro ability and back lit keys.

Re: Gaming Keyboards

I have the G15 ver 2, and before it (way before) I had a Eclipse 1.

My opinion is, if you find a keyboard that you enjoy looking at, and the keys feel good when you type, all the rest do not matter.

The G15 ver 2, is well built, looks good if that is your thing. One of the main reasons (not the only one) I bought it was the orange lights it has. I have it for 1 and 3/4 years now. The extra keys on the left, worthless to me. The clock option, volume controls, mute button, Windows Key enable/disable switch, are the best parts of this keyboard. The keys are good, not the best ever, but good. It hasn't shown any signs of dying on me soon, and I use it every day.
One of the best things, a very small for others, is how the keys looks like new after all this time. No signs of wear, paint going on vacation etc.

The keyboard is still too expensive, at least here in Greece, but well worth the money if you can afford it.
I am not saying it is the best keyboard ever, just that if you buy another one, you are more likely to get a worse keyboard than a better one.

Word of warning though. It's huge.

Re: Gaming Keyboards

Personally I think that new Microsoft keyboard is ugly. I had the Microsoft Razer Reclusa once upon a time and it wasn't that great.

I'd go with the G15 ver. 2.

Re: Gaming Keyboards

Cheers for the input. I'm definatly thinking the Logitech path is the way to go....
Although I like look of the Lycosa (NZ$149), it's NZ$20 more than the G15 (NZ$129), and the G110 is even cheaper (NZ$110)plus the G110 has a USB 2.0 hub also, but the G15 has the display...ahhh the choices!

Re: Gaming Keyboards

About the display, it can show info in some games, like ammo and health, but at least for game it is pretty much useless, more like a wow cool and then you never look at it again.
The RSS feed is nice, but why not just use a windows application for that than reading off the small screen?
The resources app is ok, but why would anyone spend time looking at the keyboard to see the cpu and ram usage all the time?
etc.
The only way I use the screen is for the clock app. While gaming it is nice to see the time there. Of course if you have something like a watch or clock, you don't really need it.
What I am trying to say is, although I am sure some people love the screen to death, I wouldn't choose which keyboard to buy solely on if the keyboard has it or not.
