Been a while, Looking to build a Budget Rig, Would like suggestions

Hi guys, I used to post here a few years ago. Fell on some hard times Had no job/money for this hobby so i lost interest and stopped coming here.

I have a stable job now, Not the greatest paying but it pays all my bills and luckily rents pretty cheap.

Currently using an OEM rig with a 1.86Ghz C2D, 4gb 667mhz DDr2.

I will be using my existing video card, hard drives, Peripherals, Monitors so Ive pieced together a newegg wishlist and would like some suggestions/opinions. I need to keep it around $450

I went with the x3 because of its low price and the fact that with alot of the units, the 4th core and be unlocked and is stable.

I read the Hyper 212 is beastly for its price. Only other thing I would be adding will be some AS5.

Im not much of a gamer anymore, Usually I just muiltitask, Encode/Burn video.

Re: Been a while, Looking to build a Budget Rig, Would like suggestions

Not a bad build.

You might want to look at the Athlon II X 635. It's $105.99 on Newegg. Going with that would assure you that you would get a quad core rather than hoping to get a 730 that 'unlocks'. The AIIs are getting danged fine reviews.

For the case, if your budget has room for a Cooler Master RC-690 ($79.99 at the Egg) it would be a much better case than the Rosewill.
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
The RC-690 is the case that the Rosewill is TRYING to be.

Sound advice from Buzzard on the 635, personally I'd want a larger PSU but I don't know what gfx, drives you're running.

Good to see you back Random, glad things are back on track for you.

Re: Been a while, Looking to build a Budget Rig, Would like suggestions

You should also consider the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-125-_-Product

It is a great cooler, super quiet and comes with their excellent MX-2 paste pre-applied. So not only do you save on the cooler you save on the paste too... $15 that can be better spent elsewhere in the build.

(Also, unless Cooler Master have changed their retention clip since I used that cooler, the AC model is much less fiddly to install)

Thanks for the tips guys Ill definitely switch out the cpu, I do like the cooler master case but Judas also recommended a bigger psu so I can't get both. The cooler was a great tip as well saves me a few bucks on as5+shipping.

Re: Been a while, Looking to build a Budget Rig, Would like suggestions

I did some looking on Newegg, and that MB/CPU is available as a combo deal that would save you 20.00:
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

Couple that with the fact that the folks at Legit Reviews managed to OC the 635 to 3738MHz on the STOCK COOLER, AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz Quad Core Processor Review - The Test System - Legit Reviews tells me that as long as you aren't OCing, and have a case with good air-flow, that an aftermarket cooler shouldn't be necessary.

So, by just ordering the combo deal, and dropping the aftermarket HSF...VOILA room in the budget for the RC-690

Also, looking a bit more at the Egg, I see that they have the CM-690II for the same price as the RC-690.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119215

As good as the 690 is, the 690II is even nicer, and for the same $$, it would be a no brainer to go with the 690II.

Re: Been a while, Looking to build a Budget Rig, Would like suggestions

Great find on that combo thanks for taking the time to help me out.

I'm not too sure I want a Micro ATX board. But I believe the only difference is size, And all Ill have to do is find a case thatll house it.

the newegg board recommended this cooler Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 but at almost 20$ more then I want to spend I'm not sure I'm going to grab it, That and the fact a great OC was reached on the stock cooler I might just forgo the aftermarket cooler altogether saving me even more money.

That case is very nice, I might be able to squeeze it in given the fact I'm not purchasing an aftermarket cooler atm

Im planning on purchasing everything on the 1st unfortunatly the combo deal ends on the 31st, I might just have to pick up a few more shifts and get it before hand

You won't go far wrong with the CM Hyper 212 - My Q9550 is overclocked to 3.4GHz and the idle temp is under 30 degrees Celsius. Quiet as hell, too. Worth the extra $3 I'd say.

Instead of the Fatality, you might want to consider OCZ's ModXStream-Pro 600W instead.

It is nice but im not looking to spend more, not looking for Mail-in rebates. I dont really care for the fatility name but stands to reason any brand name around 550w would be fine?

Sorry as I'm not familiar with US prices, but just browsing through Newegg, you might want to consider this. Comes with Bronze certification

You won't have any problem putting an mATX board in a 690 case. They have mounting holes for ATX and mATX. Also, the 690II has a cut-out behind the CPU so that if you decide later to go with an after-market cooler, you won't have to remove the MB from the case to do so.

I looked around for a full size ATX board, and ran across an ASRock (division of ASUS) board that might be a possibility.
Newegg.com - ASRock M3A770DE AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

It's definitely a 'value based' board at $59.99, but if it's anything like the other ASRock boards lately it will be pretty danged decent. I could only find one online review of it, and they did like it.
ASRock M3A770DE Motherboard - AMD's Discrete Value Chipset Introduction :: TweakTown

There is also one place that gives a bit of a summery with pros & cons as well:
Great Technology Review: ASRock M3A770DE Motherboard - AM3 socket notes

I'm using an ASRock board in my system, and have built 3 others for friends and they have all been rock solid. ASRock is definately worth looking at these days.

Surely the Corsair 400W is way more than adequate? That rig won't even go near what it can deliver. There's no point in having an extra 200W of potential power that you're never going to use. Even with a modest graphics upgrade I just can't see it ever being a problem.

Im going to go with the Antec 300 its a solid case and will allow me to put the $20 dollar savings toward another component.

I got excited when I saw an OEM Phenom IIx4 for 120$ but turns out it was AM2 :/

I did not expect to add a newer video card to the rig but I came across an XFX Radeon 4850 1GB for 50 dollars, supposedly used for 4 months. For half what they go for new I dont think I shold pass up the opportunity. Plus im sure I can get 40/50$ for my geforce 9600gt

EDIT: Card sold, Seller would not hold it for me til the am, Oh well.

Edit: Scroll down for latest build img

Updated list Current Total: $455
5 Bucks over my initial limit, I think i can scrounge up some change.

Updated to the Phenom II for about $30 more. Im not %100 set on any hardware but this list looks good. Might try to shave a few bucks here and there. Im sure I can find ram for around $95, maybe a cheaper PSU.

I would like an after market cooler, But It can wait a week or two after I build it

All parts are free shipping

I see. I suggested the v3 because that's what i bought when I was building my first rig. you might consider a MSI board. it matches well with your AMD cpu.

Unfortunately, it isn't a BE processor, so OCing is out. If you want to do a lot of OCing, you have to go to the X4 955 BE at $159.99, which probably won't fit your budget.

Also, you might do some more research on that Antec 300 case. It may not have enough room for your video card. I know that was an issue with the Antec 300 when the HD 3870 X2s came out, which was one reason I went to the CM-690, as it had room (to spare) for my 3870 X2.

Where did you get that idea?

The Phenom II's are easy to overclock with raising HTT. They're not like the old Phenoms that didn't like that at all. I've had my 965 up to 250 without any problems so for those who knows how to the 945's overclock very well.
