Mouse Y axis

Hi All:

I have a MS mouse that losses its Y axis periodically upon bootup. When I reboot all is fine until I restart the system again. I've done the following:
1. Uninstalled/Reinstalled the drivers. NEw and old drivers.
2. Uninstalled the drives and installed drivers of another mouse (USB). USB mouse lost the Y axis. (USB Mouse came from another computer)
3. Disabled the driver via Device Mgr. Rebooted, enabled the driver.
4. Enabled the driver and rebooted.
5. Checked CMOS and Device Mgr: No warnings or anything unusual
6 Installed this mouse into another computer... all worked fine.

Could I be missing anything? Could there be some leftover junk in the WIn registry? When I reboot and the mouse works, all is well until I shutdown and restart the system say the next day. I've tried all 6 USB ports. 1 set of four build into the computer (ASUS mobo) and 2 built into the top of the case). All other USB devices work fine.

Thanks
Chops

Re: Mouse Y axis

Try using a USB to PS/2 adapter to see if that makes any difference.

Hi Takaharu: I tried that as well... nogo. This is one weird anomaly. I'm wondering if there's an old file from another driver in there that might be causing the problem. I don't know where else to look. I've checked the registry and windows folder but haven't found anything.

Eh, did you try another USB port? It might have problems.

Re: Mouse Y axis

Hi BlueMak:

Yes I tried all six as well as trying this mouse on another system. The problem only seems to be with this machine. That's why I was wondering if there could be a leftover file somewhere. But where?

I am out of ideas. Unless you have one of the old types of virus which plays jokes with the cursor, but I haven't see any of them for perhaps a decade.
