HP Laserjet 4 printing blank pages

My HPLJ4 keeps printing blank pages, even during a self-test. Tried a new fuser, laser/scanner, dc controller, toner cartridges. Nothing works. The cartridge doors are being opened when inserted. Anyone got any brilliant ideas?

Re: HP Laserjet 4 printing blank pages

Have you recently gone from XP or Vista to 7?

Old HP printers are notorious for saying that they're Windows 7 compatible - they have drivers for Win7, the product works after installing the drivers then all of a sudden, poof, it doesn't work properly.

If that's not the case, however...

Re: HP Laserjet 4 printing blank pages

Hi, I have encountered a similar problem. I replaced the cartridge on the printer, which I had not used for more than 4 years. It worked fine. The old cartridge was working, but because of low ink, the print was very light. After about a month, something happened to mydesktop, and though I did not have to reinstall Windows XP, I noticed that things were not working the same after booting. My printer then started printing in Chinese or Korean or Japanese -- not sure which as I cannot read the language, but it was totally garbled when I tried to print anything. Now it just prints blank pages with an occasional garbled line of characters thrown in. Anyone has any ideas?

Re: HP Laserjet 4 printing blank pages

Aside from the fact that this thread is 2 1/2 years old, it does seem that there's an epidemic of printer problems lately.

My sister works in an office and her printer started using French....after some update she installed.

Recommend: Completely uninstall the printer, drivers, unplug the printer from the PC.

Download and run CCleaner...both the Cleaner and Registry options. Do the Registry option until no further issues are found.

Reboot the PC without the printer being connected.

Run CCleaner once again to make sure everything is clean.

Proceed to install the printer once again and make sure to follow all instructions...e.g. Disconnecting the USB cable if so directed.
