Hello, first post, found this cool site by Google.

I don't know what happened to my Mybook files. It contains all my movies and my Hard drive backups.
Seems I may have a trojan. Everytime I try to use Disk Doctor, the trojan or whatever it is prevents me from scanning.

My programs show up as these:

•4±6xj*?péôZÿ©u“«}§ÕùÍhž×

Say's my folders are empty.
I have tried using SDFix and I can't even get that in there.

Has anyone ever had this similar problem?

Yes I had this when I bought my first (and only) MyBook 2 years ago.
I lost about 180GB (IIRC) of data.
The MyBook in question is dead. Return it, get your money back and buy something else. (not Lacie)

If you can recover any files, do it, but don't put any files more on it.

Try Western Digital's Lifeguard software. See what that says. Did you scan your PC to make sure you don't have any malware? Try the MyBook on another PC? Does it have the latest firmware?

Blue, was it the drive interface that died or the drive itself? If it's hardware related, he can take the MyBook apart and hook the drive directly to the PC and recover files.

My guess is the mechanism, but no way to be absolutely certain. Either way, piece of shit equipment that cost me 180GB of data I never managed to get hold of again.
Stay away from Mybook.

Yes he could open it but at the risk of losing his warranty if he doesn't care THAT much for them.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it!

I will try the lifeguard product.

I did remove both of the Mybook drives and am using a really well built docking bay I bought on Amazon.

I have HD Sentinel and everything reads as fine, the files have been apparently re-converted.

Tried Avast Antivirus last night and it found a number of files there though I have yet to have them corrected.

The chkdsk says they are all RAW files now, don't have a n idea in H@ll
how that happened.

I have a band, and some of my files which took years to get together, are probably adios

People that write harmware, if caught should have their fingers mangled for doing such horrible things to hard working folks.
(Sorry, terribly upset about losing years of work).
