Monitor/tv latency
I was just wondering if there was a difference in latency between the major types of input cables. I.e. Hdmi, component, composite, dvi, vga, etc. The reason i'm asking is because i've been setting up a high end gaming system trying to maximize overall input response time for my computer and xbox. I'm currently using a CRT tv for my xbox and an LCD for my computer. I was looking into getting a one plasma tv to use for both systems because i heard they share a one microsecond response time with CRT tvs. I would.get a plasma monitor, but i guess they only make tvs and only bigger than forty inches. I'm just wondering what kind of input i should use to get the fastest response time and still get a decent quality picture. Thanks.

Re: Monitor/tv latency
As far as I remember, plasma monitors are the worse if you are worrying about input lag and gaming.
I do not know about differences in cables, but there are HUGE differences in input lag etc depending on the model of the TV/monitor. The difference with the cables that I know of has to do with resolutions supported and actual quality of what you see on the screen. In most cases what you get out of a HDMI connection is the best, together with DVI-D. Followed by VGA, component and last composite. With HDMI you can get a more crisp image and in most cases a far better for the eyes image (less tiring). I don't like to post other hardware sites but a good site which have tons of info on the matter is Buyer's Guides - DigitalVersus You can check the numbers there and then check back here for more Still, the numbers don't always tell the truth so if you like one but it has something just a bit worse than another, it doesn't mean it is not a better solution for you.

Re: Monitor/tv latency
even with a 2ms responce time on lcd tvs... it's a little absurd considering that in @ 60fps... your not going to see any advantage to having sub that..
Actually i think it's 5.5ms responce time which fits perfectly into the refreshrate/redraw of a 60hz/60fps... so anything faster isn't going to show a massive advantage.. Now considering input lag..... vga/hdmi/dvi..... i would say proably vga and display port will have the least... i'm guessing... considering that the images are basically all done up and ready on both those style of connectors where as dvi/hdmi require a smidge more work at the display end... but then again there is just as much extra work on the video adapter end too.. Personally as much as i'm a freak of noticing any kind of lag and it irritating me ... be it auido or visual or gameplay.... an Xbox360 hooked up via HDMI is best.. and a Computer hooked up via vga OR HDMI.... is perfect too... IT all comes down to how good your output device is.. which is not interchangeable on a xbox360 obviously.. and your most important thing being your display device... While i have gamed on a plasma... i still perfer the LCD... and while some have reported that using LCDs with Image Interplolation (which does the frame doubling) WHICH is a feature that can be disabled..... some have said it introduces lag.. i tend not see any noticeable lag at all... if anything... i find it significantly improves things making it easier.. and more accurate... Games like racing or FPS are great with it... Always preferred 60fps over 30fps gameplay myself.
