1Gb Memory DIMM not detected. Update BIOS? How?
Hi there,
I have : 1.85 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP with Main Circuit Boar Board: Shuttle Inc MN31 Bus Clock: 166 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 03/28/2003 Memory Modules Slot 'A0' is Empty, Slot 'A1' has 256 MB, Slot 'A2' has 256 MB Ok, the manual says: Memory Dual Channel DDR 200/266/333+ SDRAM, 3 x 184-pin DIMM, Up to 3 GB. So I bought a 1 GB DIMM but it wasn't detect. And I thought that may be what I needed is a BIOS update. The problem is I can't get a BIOS update from the shuttle inc website. Any ideas? Thank you |

Some motherboards do not allow you to install RAM with different memory sizes. Have you tried taking out the 2x256MB sticks, and just install the single 1GB stick?

Re: 1Gb Memory DIMM not detected. Update BIOS? How?
Hi There, thanks for answering. Yes I tried all possible configurations:
A0 A1 A2 C1: 1GB 256 256 C2: 256 1GB 256 C3: 256 256 1GB C4: 1GB(in A0) C5: 1GB(in A1) C6: 1GB(in A2) And nothing happened. Now I'm working as C1 but like you can see A0 is reported like "Empty" Last edited by Rusell; Sep 27, 2010 at 03:40 PM. Reason: formating |

Re: 1Gb Memory DIMM not detected. Update BIOS? How?
Having tried the 1GB ram in each of the ram slots as shown in configurations C4-C6, it seems to me that either the 1GB ram is faulty or it is not compatible with the motherboard.
Assuming you don't have another motherboard for testing, you should probably contact Shuttle to check for ram compatibility (Shuttle Global - Home), or RMA the ram if faulty. |

Re: 1Gb Memory DIMM not detected. Update BIOS? How?
its highly possible that the DIMM density or configuration of the module is not allowing it to be detected....
in short, the motherboard is not recent enough to detect anything over 512mb or so (just a guess so dont quote me on this) refer to the memory compatibility list of that motherboard to help with this issue
