Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Ok. I want something really nifty and clever but I don't know if anything like it is around at all so I'm asking to see if anyone does know.
For my HTPC I have a wireless keyboard and mouse but it doesn't look good on my coffee table at all. I want something more discrete. The table is glass so if I could find somewhere a keyboard that is more or less paper thin, as close to transparent as possible, that can be ontop of the glass table and look cool instead. If it has a mousepad as well it'd be great. If it can take a spilled glass of coke or a cup of coffee it's even better. It has to be wireless. I think you get the idea. Does anyone know of a good solution for this? |

The apple keyboard and mouse?
They look stunning and are wireless. They run on bluetooth.

Amazon.com: Wireless Virtual Laser Keyboard: Electronics
Forget the above. Check this one http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Keyb...ref=pd_sim_e_2 It also works for desktop OSes.

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Hmm, interesting. I just wonder where those "projectors" have to be. If they have to be on top of the table it kind of takes away the whole point, unless it can be mounted under the glass somehow...

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Those projector keyboards aren't that great though. I used, or rather tried to use that particular one before, and it kept messing up letters, or not detecting taps for keys. Plus from what I know they won't work properly on a glass table.
My suggestion, how about a Rii? Have one myself. |

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
I've got something along the lines of what Tipstaff found you, Logitech diNovo Mini (substitutes both keyboard and mouse). It's a really neat device (a friend has one), but a bit costlier than the Rii for the same functionality.

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Nah, those are to small. I can just as well use the remote control then. This is a tough one to solve.

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Too bad the No-Key Touch glass keyboard never made it into production. That thing was amazing.
If you've got the bucks there's also another company that makes glass keyboards, Cleankeys Inc. They make wireless glass and acrylic keyboards (keyboard/touch mouse combo) for medical use, such as dental and doctors offices. I've only ever bought 5 of these for single client, a dentist who bought them for his practice, but these things were $450 a pop just for the glass boards ($400 for the acrylic). |

Re: Suggest a "transparent" keyboard
Of the 2 laser ones Bluemak mentioned in post 3, I know for sure the Celluon one doesn't work properly. I've tried it, plus all the updates for it, and it just isn't accurate. The iTech one in the 1rst link I can't say for sure if it's good or bad, however it is the newer of the 2, so you never know.
The only other thing I can suggest is going with either the ultra thin keyboards, such as the Logitech Illuminated Keyboards or the Microsoft Mobile Keyboard 6000 (I love this keyboard/number pad combo.. super thin, sexy, runs on Bluetooth, and the keyboard/number pad are separate pieces), or go with the flexible/foldable keyboards like the Freedom Pro (Bluetooth, folds in 1/2, meant for Blackberry and/or smart phones), or the Menotek Flexible (Bluetooth, and Amazon has it on sale for $30). None of these, however, come with a mouse/touch pad though. |
