Disk Utility for Macintosh

I am trying to upgrade from OS 9 to OS X, and it isn't working properly, so I ran disk first aid, and it says there is an error, and it says that it is repaired, so I run it again, and the error comes up again. The apple website suggests using a 3rd party utility in this case to do the repair, I would like to use norton disk utility, but with a $100 price tag, it isn't an option right now.

Thank you for any help.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

We don't have any Mac forums, so this will have to do. Is there an evaluation copy of Norton you could try?
