Headset recommendations?

Hey all!

As I was looking into audio issues with my rig, I came to the realization that my headset has become dysfunctional (sound will stutter across both speakers, and mic is unusable). It's a Sennheiser PC350 that I've had for 3 years. It's going to cost $80 to repair, but I figured I may as well look into a new headset. Does anyone have any recommendations for between $100USD and $300USD? I don't really have a preference of 2/5.1/7.1 for headsets, but I want a functional mic (surprisingly hard to find?).

I'll be using the headset for a split of music, gaming, teamspeak/ventrilo, and recording. Like to hear HH's recommendations.

Re: Headset recommendations?

Would you consider something in the $30.00-40.00 range?

I've been using the Koss SB45 for a about 3 years now, and #1 son has the newer SB49. The SB49 seems to be almost identical to the SB45 but with an in-line volume control added.

They are very comfy, and I use them for hours at a time (I don't have any speakers right now) whilst playing IL2 and other games. The Mic works great, and people on Teamspeak never have problems hearing me.

The SB45/49 is really a pretty good headset. You almost never see it reviewed. Probably because they "don't cost enough", but if you google it, you will see that the USER reviews are pretty good.

OH...they do have a lifetime warranty as well.

Re: Headset recommendations?

I got my other half a Razer Moray recently. I was looking for a new set of headphones for her and I thought of how much I like using the type of headphones that you put in your ear - I love using them because they're a great fit, comfy and they block out almost all outside noise so you also end up turning the volume down. She really likes the quality, even though a cheap set would have sufficed and loves how little noise gets in.
I'd recommend the Moray to anyone, unless they have an issue with earplug headphones (is that what they're called?).

Just to clarify, the Moray has a mic and as an added benefit it works with the iPhone, DS, DSi and PSP as well as generic headphone jacks.

Re: Headset recommendations?

I'm not really looking for earbuds, thank you though, Takaharu. I'm looking more for over-the-ear style (a la Sennheiser/Turtle Beach).

I'll look into the Kosses, but I am kind of an audiophile.

PC 350 is great, i'd personally get another one if I were you especialy for gaming. But for all round you may want to check out the PC 360, which is imo more comfortable than the 350 and require much less tweaking if used besides gaming (bass).

The reviews on HH are worth reading through:

I'll look those over. I was talking to an EE friend from MIT, and he says most likely a connector cable came loose - although he's in California now, he may be able to crack open my headphones and re-solder it back together. If not, I'm looking into those PC360's.

Thanks (:

Just random q: anyone here use a pair of Corsair HS1's? I would look into that as well, but I've heard complaints of a fault mic / short mic.

If you get the HS-1 you wll spend half your time messing with the bass to get it to a level you want. The PC360 are fantastic right out of the box. Of all the headsets we have reviewed here in the last year the 360 is the best... the only issues are that there are alternatives which have better value (e.g. Steelseries 7H).

Re: Headset recommendations?

falls well within his price range though. I'd def see if the 350 can be fixed, otherwise get the pc 360.

Re: Headset recommendations?

I'm still intending on the 360/fixing the 350, but has anyone tried/heard of this headset?

Newegg.com - SHARKOON X-Tatic 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Headset

Looks to be promising - can't really find many faulty reviews on it, and the fact everything is detachable/replaceable is a big bonus.
