Dead PC? Please Advice

Hi,

My PC had been good to me until last month it started turning off in the middle of anything.

Tried the following but no joy:
1. replaced power supply
2. re-seat RAM and video card.
3. powered on without ram hoping to get RAM error.
4. powered on without video card hoping to get video card error.

My System is Windows 7, Athlon 2.8, 2GB RAM

Your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Or do you mean that it turns off randomly? If so, what are you doing when this happens (e.g. only when gaming), and have you run stability tests of any kind?

I would assume that at first it started to shutdown, and now won't boot.

Couple things:

- Disconnect the power, remove the CMOS battery from the board, and reset the CMOS. Then reconnect the battery, plug the PC in, and give it a shot. Just be sure to go into the bios before booting Windows so that you can set things back the way they were before.

- Take a look at the motherboard, specifically the capacitors around the CPU socket, as well as the ones closest to the video card. Do any appear expanded on the tops? Bubbled up, or look like they have leaked?

- You've reseated the normal stuff (video card, ram and such), but have you reseated the CPU? With the ZIF styled sockets the CPU can, over time, creep out of the socket . Might be worth taking the cooler off, and re-seating the CPU (while you're at it you might as well as apply new thermal paste too).

Re: Dead PC? Please Advice

thanks for your replies.

it started turn off itself randomly and now do not even turn ON. There is no leaking caps or any sort.

I am now looking for motherboard replacement, hopefully it is still available.
