Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Technically, no they weren't........ The first set, yeah, one stick was DOA and I got a replacement set. Which I killed by running them at settings the processor was not designed to run at. Not so sure "lifetime" warranty would cover that.

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Ignore the processor stuff. AMD certify memory up to 1333MHz based on industry standards. There is nothing which says memory past that is incompatible with your CPU and it certainly wouldn't cause damage to the sticks. Memory is designed to work at a set of specificaitons. In this case 1600/1.5v with 9xxx-24-2T. That is what they should run at, regardless of the CPU (Intel/AMD).
Just to confirm, no Intel or AMD CPU officially supports anything like 2000MHz etc which all of the major memory manufacturers sell. (Or motherboards support). If you run your CPU out of spec, it could die. If you run your memory out of spec, it may die... I have never heard of a CPU killing memory. What may happen, on occasion, is the mobo/mem could be incompatible but other than that it is a case of works or doesnt. If it doesnt then they are probaly faulty and need returned. (only way to be sure is to test in a 2nd machine) |

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Question..... will this ram run in this setup at any speed if I get another replacement set? (even if it's 1066, I don't care. I just need something that works)
Or should I get a refund from newegg and take the restocking fee hit and just say ![]() ![]() and live with 2 gig.... I'm already going to be out what ever I saved from the sale they had at the time because of my shipping fees.Seriously PO'd here.......

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Depends if its a compatibility issue or not. Do you have access to another PC which could be used to test the sticks? (Friend/Relative?)

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
According to the ASRock "qualified " memory listing for this board the G-Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ is qualified. The memory in question is F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL. I know that's not the exact same part number and subtle differences can cause conflicts but I saw this before I bought the RAM and it is also advertised as compatible with the AMD AM3 platform. My thought was the difference was the "ripjaws" heatsink as the other memory has a different spreader.
The fact that it did run for some time at 1600 and now won't run at all at any setting has me thinking that they won't run in any other system even if I had somebody that could help with that...... I'm pretty sure they are toast. I just don't know if a new set, at proper settings for my motherboard/processor would run or not...... and following suit how would I know what brand would? (note.... I did not just open up the thread to "fanboy-isms")

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Shipped these back to newegg today.......
2x shipping and a restocking fee...... $20 to not own G-Skill ram. Wallet feels lighter. Limping along with 2 gig for now.

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Problem solved with an 8gig kit of Corsair XMS3.......
No problem sensing speeds and a flawless install. I'll be able to up the speed when my Phenom II X2 555 Black comes in next week.

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Thanks man....... Interesting, several of the new reviews on newegg have guys getting one DOA stick or flaky ram with these particular sticks. Could be G-Skill has a quality control issue of late.
Very satisfied with the Corsair and 8 gig is sweet too.

Maybe you even get a good one that unlocks to x4 without issues.

The ASRock board does allow for core unlocking so I will see what's inside that CPU......

Re: So, what's the deal with G-Skill RAM???
Which is why I never even LOOK at any RAM other than Corsair. I've used nothing but Corasir since my first build (an AMD K6-233), and I''ve never had to return a DOA stick, never had problems getting it to run, and never had any fail in use.

Most of the issues I've encountered (all in other people's builds) have been OCZ related.

Still color me a GSkill fanboy. Their forums are amazing and I've never had an issue.
Corsair is wonderful too, though, and actually American. And at least it's not OCZ. |
