System can't boot, related to raid 0 problems
Hi guys,
Again my damn Raid-0 is acting up. Earlier today I did a simple restart when I installed windows security essentials 2.0, but my system wouldn't boot after this. So i tried doing a repair install but the setup disk didnt find it. That led to me reformatting and reinstalling. windows Everything came up and running fine, but I found an 8gb of unallocated space which I don't know is from (usually 100mb unallocated for raid 0, this was new). It was never there before. t cannot be intialized or deleted. This unallocated space doesn't show up in the BIOS. I wasn't happy so i decided to break the raid-0 and restructure it...still this mystery unallocated space exists, turned off my eSATA enclosure too and nothing related to it. Now I continue to get an error that windows cannot install on my raid-0 partition, and if it tries to install windows it might make another partition. I believe my disks are in good health, i also tried changing to IDE and AHCI in the BIOS...and i also get an error at post saying hard disk drive 1 not found. You guys think my RAID controller might be screwy on the board? one time it just broke the raid last year. i need help! ill try and post some pictures later from my iphone with the errors |

Re: System can't boot, related to raid 0 problems
Grab your hardrives Diagnostic software that is bootable..
If it's seagate then it'll be seatools.. then do a partial or full low level format... this will nuke the drives strange partition dealy.. and it should recognize if there is any odd bad sectors for some odd reason.. Also make sure you do these in IDE mode IF the discs down boot correctly or recognize with ACHI mode, and sometimes you need to have no more then 1 or 2 gb of ram installed for them to boot too which is strange.... The only time i've seen raid 0 go bad is a hardrive failing, or the raid controller failing.... and i must say, with ati and nvidia's, and via's raid controllers... i've seen those controllers fall appart... The only controllers i've always have had 100% luck with are the Highpoint tech and Intel ICHxR

Re: System can't boot, related to raid 0 problems
now the system will randomly start locking up for 10 seconds under load, sorta like the intel link state power problem i had back on vista....even when im booting. i scanned the drives and wrote zeros to it so no problems. i believe turning off marvell ide boot fixed my problem...

Re: System can't boot, related to raid 0 problems
don't know if this is BIOS related... but while im booting my system the logo will pause for about 15 seconds then continue. so boot times are now a bit longer than before, this didnt happen before...

Re: System can't boot, related to raid 0 problems
it stopped now hmm... with marvell IDE on. i did run extended tests in windows and off the boot disc. it was trying to recover bad sectors in windows and failed. but was perfect off the boot disc. i have a feeling it could show its ugly head again
