Re: Hardware Check...

That's a PSU that I had not heard of, but with a bit of googling, I'm seeing that the quality of Tagan PSUs is pretty spotty. Some are OK, and some are garbage. That particular one is NOT modular, from one pic that I was able to find.

One thing that DOES bother me is the warranty on the Tagan. On the lynx-india web site it says that it only has a 1yr warranty. That would put me off of it all together.

Tagan Stone Rock 500 Watt Power Supply Model - TG500-U37 ? Lynx - The Audio , Electronics And Computer Online Store In India

If you can get a Corsair PSU in the 400-450w range for close to the same price of the Tagan, it would best to do that.

Given the choice, I think I'd get this one:

Corsair 400W Power Supply Model - CMPSU-400CX ? Lynx - The Audio , Electronics And Computer Online Store In India

A bit less than the Tagan, and a known high quality PSU. Even though it's 'only' a 400w PSU, it will power a 5770 with ease. I've used the CX400 in two builds and they are performing flawlessly.

As for the cabinet, is the PSU mounted at the top or bottom? I can't find a picture of it on the net.

Re: Hardware Check...

The CX400 is a great psu, made by Seasonic no less, sadly I hear it has been discontinued, so if you do find it in a shop it is most likely surplus stock.

As for the CX430, I haven't seen any reviews yet, but it is rumoured to be made by CWT which are not a bad oem, but the psu is not even 80+ certified if that matters to you.

Given the choice, and it appears that you do if you will be ordering thru lynx-india, I'd go with the CX400.

It will supply 30AMPS on the +12v rail vs 28AMPS that the CX430 supplies.

While the newer CX series from Corsair are good PSUs, the older ones seem to be a bit better.

I could be nistaken (and at my advanced age that's a good possibility ), but I seem to remember that someone in a review of the CX400 pulled almost 600W out of it before it shut down. The CX400 is a WAY under rated PSU.

Re: Hardware Check...

You cant really go wrong with Seasonic or Corsair, both quality manufacturers.

Corsair don't actually make their own PSUs, they oem a psu from another manufacturer. In the case of the CX400, it is Corsair branded, but the psu internals are made by Seasonic. Hope that clears up any confusion about my previous post.

My bad, I clearly remember when it was first released, there was no 80+ certification. Corsair have either changed it, or they may have cheated a little, the Overview page says "up to 80% energy efficient".

Like OldBuzzard says, I would pick the CX400 over the CX430, plus it comes with a 3 yr warranty, the CX430 only has 2 yrs.

Re: Hardware Check...

Yes, the Corsair CX400:
Corsair 400W Power Supply Model - CMPSU-400CX ? Lynx - The Audio , Electronics And Computer Online Store In India

It is made by Seasonic, but to Corsair's specifications.

With it mounted at the top, it will have the fan intake facing down, so it will get good airflow thru the PSU helping to keep it cool.

Re: Hardware Check...

From the reviews I've seen, it comes with a DVI -> D-Sub adapter, so you should have no problem to connect it to your monitor.
