I like both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards (ATI is, strictly speaking, no more). Now what are you going to do?

I haven't had an amd/ati card in quite a while, but I used to hate their drivers so much. Never had a problem with any from nvidia. Both seem to make good hardware so it comes down to that.

Was it MSI that you had? Their drivers SUCK. I don't know whether they've improved over the years but I've never had nor known anyone that had an MSI component that worked without the driver(s) going wrong.
I had an MSI graphics card once and I had to install the drivers about 4 times to get it working properly, going between the ones that MSI supplied and the ones on the ATI (at the time) website. I think it was a 3800 series card.
A friend of mine had an AGP MSI card that he hated with a passion (couldn't afford to replace it though) because of the amount of times he had to uninstall and re-install the driver.

The problems ranged between displaying 8-bit, not displaying anything at all to disabling certain aspects of the software (like DirectL I think it was called). Nothing wrong with the hardware, that seemed to work fine, you just had to rely on pot luck for the drivers working properly.
After trying MSI once I went back to Sapphire and never changed again (for AMD products anyway). The drivers always worked first time with them (as they should do).
I didn't have much luck with motherboard drivers either for motherboards that were branded as Microstar International (I never risked one that was labeled specifically as MSI). I've been through a good few brands of motherboards over the years but since my first gaming-grade board (ASUS Maximus Formula) I've been an ASUS fan. ASRock came from ASUS so the Extreme 6 still counts

So, that's not really a dig at AMD cards, just MSI.

Re: Nvidia v/s Ati... Let's hv a hardcore discussion...!!!

My only experience with ATi was years ago - I cant remember the model it was but I upgraded to an Nvidia 7900GS which gives you an idea of how long ago were talking about. The thing I didn't like about it was the amateur driver interface that it used. It seriously looked like some college kid had knocked the interface together in MS Paint. That coloured my impression of the company when I did move to an Nvidia with it's much more professional looking UI. I'm sure that situation has changed now but I understand Nvidia cards whereas I have no experience with ATi cards.

Now I have a GTX460 and I had some issues with it that seem to be in part down to the driver set I was running. The new betas have improved things. The card also gets loud when gaming but this is due to the card provider (Palit) cutting corners.

I considered an ATi but I wanted Physx, I think it does make a difference to the games that use it, of course DirectCompute should level the playing field again. Also tesselation is apparently more efficient on the Fermi chips and that's one of the only features of Dx11 that looks interesting.

I just got through Crysis at 1920x1080 with settings at 'cheap very high' and averaged 30fps so I'm happy with the card.

Re: Nvidia v/s Ati... Let's hv a hardcore discussion...!!!

Well I've only ever used Intel+Nvidia based rigs for my own PC, but I'm sure that AMD products are excellent also, and I've no issue with recommending them to anyone.

I would say that price per performance is generally similar within any given price category, although there is obviously a sweet spot for this measure in the mid range for both companies.

Given the choice, I prefer VIA integrated graphics to either. The onboard GPU on my Foxconn P4M9007MB is able to run Crysis Warhead at 7680*1600, everything on very high, with 8xAA and in steroscopic 3D with no issues at all. And that's just with a 550MHZ K6-2 rammed into the LGA775 socket, imagine what it could do if properly sorted out.

AMD at the moment.......

A couple of years ago anything with two monitor support and cheap.... that ended up being Nivdia.

This is in FWZ right?

Right now AMD has my vote but I really don't have a problem with nvidia. Although im more and more leaning towards nvidia for my next upgrade because I was a little disappointed by what AMD released in their 6xxx series.
