exclamation Ghost in a mouse

Two days ago the scroll wheel of my G9 was acting up. While the feel was the same, the actual responsiveness of windows while scrolling was strange. The pages would not move at all or move at erratic speeds.
I changed speeds in the setpoint options, in the Windows' driver, nothing. I updated Windows, I restarted the computer several times, I removed programs and plug ins. Nothing would make it go back to normal.

Till today.
At about 4am I went to bed and left my PC on as usual.
About 3.5 hours later I woke up. The mouse wheel works like it should....

I am telling you, there are ghosts!

Re: Ghost in a mouse

Is it a deskptop only issue, or does it also in games, for instance?

Re: Ghost in a mouse

I've had worse - I had a keyboard that would start typing by itself, whilst I'm typing. Wouldn't be actual words but it's a tad annoying and strange. It would also shut down the computer if it got too bored.
It didn't take me too long to establish that plugging it into the PS/2 port using an adapter alleviated the problem but it was still a mystery.

I don't know, I didn't play any games requiring the wheel over those couple of days.

EDIT: Eh, I don't know how I forgot, I did play Far Cry 2 and I remember when I was shopping for weapons, the scroll wheel was having the same problem while using it to scroll virtual virtual window too lol.

Re: Ghost in a mouse

When I was in the USAF working on Super High Frequency Communications (Microwave), we blamed issues like that on "Dissident Electrons".

Back in WWII, it was GREMLINS that caused stuff like that:

YouTube - Fallin' hare, Bugs Bunny know a Gremlin

I am sure there is something more than we know.
