DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
OK, I've already read about the possibility of bent pins on the CPU motherboard being at the heart of this problem. But, I've done a few other things to see if I can rule out the pins being bent.
The motherboard is a MSI X58A-GD45 and it's quite a nice layout! What I've noticed in reference to the RAM (3 x 2 GB in Banks 0A, 0B, 0C) is that one particular module won't show up in PC Wizard when I move it around. Windows 7 x64 is reporting only 4 GB total. That's not 6GB total and only 4 usable; just a total of 4 GB. But, CPU-Z and PC Wizard do see all 6 GB of RAM installed. They can even show the RAM settings for all three modules. But, in PC Wizard, when I click on the Memory under the Hardware section, only two Banks show up as being filled and, whichever Bank this one particular module is in is the one that's missing. So, wouldn't that point more to a bad RAM module rather than possible bent pins on the processor? |

Re: DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
If the problem follows a RAM module around I would think so, yes...

Re: DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
i would say no because i recently had a battle with a Corsair Triple channel kit which oventually led to none of the modules showing up...
I resolved it finally with a triple channel kit from g-skill which works flawlessly.. the corsair ram didn't have any problems with other machine.. but for whatever reason.. i'm finding strange things happening in some triple channel boards with similare/identical results that AREN'T the rams fault.. it's seems to be random on what will and will not work.

What does this do?

Re: DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
At any rate Dyre, it would seem to make sense to RMA the RAM you have. It's the easiest solution and the most likely to work.
Also, update your system specs :P

Re: DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
Done....but not done. (Still some tweaking to be done.)
UPDATE: It was definitely a bad RAM stick! I removed the other two and put the suspect one in Bank O and the system wouldn't even POST. Replaced that with a good one and the system came right up. Took the package back to Micro Center and got it replaced. All is well now....for now.

Re: DDR3 OCZ Triple Channel Not Working
Well, after replacing the kit with a new one, I did some research on this OCZ kit and was able to get it running now at 1600 MHz.
![]() I'm going to have to put off doing any OC'ing the the processor due to the fact that my previous CPU cooler won't work on this new motherboard. ![]() So, I'm stuck with using the OEM cooler for now. But, it's doing a good job so far. |
