Re: Advice
I think the 960s were too expensive for their performance, especially now that the sandy bridge processors are out. In a gaming PC you have to give priority to the GPU/s, so, in that aspect, the 1st choice is better.

Re: Advice
Well, seeing as I just upgraded the past few days to the specs listed over there on the left.......
....those prices are WAY out of line! My upgrade costs: I7 950: $199.99 MSI X58A-GD45: $189.99 OCZ DDR3 (3x2=6 GB): $89.99 [After $30 Rebate] XFX HD 6870: $239.99 I already have a really nice tall tower PC Case and a 24 inch LCD monitor. But, if you added those costs: PC Case: $119.00 Viewsonic 24 inch LCD: $199.00 The total would come to just over $1000.00. I'd have to advise you to shop somewhere else.

Re: Advice
It seems he's already gone and purchased. I had recommended this build in another thread and it seems he has gone with it.
Intel i7-2600K ASRock Extreme4 1155 Motherboard Intel X25 Mainstream 160GB SataII SSD EVGA GTX 570 Corsair AX750 PSU Corsair Dominator 1600mhz (2X4GB) CoolerMaster CM690 II Advanced Midtower I'm not sure what he went with for cpu cooler -- I listed the H50/H70/V8 as possibilities.

Re: Advice
I would recommend not getting the V8.

Re: Advice
Yeah, I listed it out of habit. I have no idea which CPU cooler he ordered. The V8 can handle medium OC'ing well, but the A50 / Megahalem /Mugen2 would've been better recommendations.

Re: Advice
if you want 12gb of ram..... stick to 3x4gb ram kits..
also a minimum of 60gb for your SSD would be preferrred... 30gb just isn't to tight to work with imo... Then pair it with a WD Caviar Black 500+ gb drive 64mb cache... Personally would prefer the Gigabyte board... and a ATI 6770 would be good too.. just my opinion...

Re: Advice
Hopefully he went with the LGA1155 build, and not with an i7-960. It could do with a storage drive, though.

Re: Advice
yeah i'd jump on the LGA1155 socket cpu's and such.. they are amazing ... specially the price performance
but no triple channel....

Re: Advice
The lack of triple channel is regrettable, but as the recent HH article showed, the raw performance of the new CPUs more than makes up for it in the real world.

The 1156 socket systems i've been building for a year are still pushing amazing number crunching figures even compared to that of the i7 1366 pig i've got.

Re: Advice
I think those are pre-assembled configurations. That's why the price is way out of line with what you would pay when assembling it yourself.

Re: Advice
1356 and 2011. LGA2011 will probably compete with the g34s with up to 4pc motherboards.
