ASRock P67 Extreme4 CPU Cooler?

Hi everyone,

I've built a new Sandy Bridge rig, and I'm looking for a functional, well-fitting CPU cooler for my ASRock P67 Extreme4. In the ether of the interwebs, there seems to be a disturbing lack of consensus regarding coolers that actually clear the onboard heatsinks, and the uncomfortably close RAM slots. Does anyone actually own one of these boards, and/or does anyone have any insight? My specs are below, and I greatly appreciate your time. Thank you in advance!

CPU: Intel i5-2500k
Motherboard: ASRock P67 Extreme4 ATX
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922
GPU: Palit Sonic GTX 560Ti 1GB
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Power Supply: XIGMATEK 700W ATX12V v2.3 SLI/CrossFire Ready 80+ BRONZE Cert
Monitor: Sony Bravia 32" 1080p HDTV.

Thanks again; I really appreciate any ideas you might have.
-Justin S.

Because you have the HAF case, something like a Coolit Vantage/Eco or Corsair H50/70 would be ideal but that depends on your budget. No clearance issues and performance a little above high end air coolers.

Re: ASRock P67 Extreme4 CPU Cooler?

I bought the Corsair H50 you recommended at a nearby store this afternoon. It's lovely. Thank you for your prompt, insightful reply... I had felt a bit painted into the corner by the motherboard's slightly crammed-together design, and this was an elegant solution. Thanks again, truly.

Re: ASRock P67 Extreme4 CPU Cooler?

Thanks!

This is a procedural build (meaning I have a million other simultaneous projects). I'd been dragging my heels hoping that the final component would arrive today, but it didnt. Nevertheless, I've posted some early pics of the components on flickr, and I'll be updating that set with pics this weekend as I finalize my build. I'm definitely open to any criticism or comments, so feel free!

Re: ASRock P67 Extreme4 CPU Cooler?

Those pics are quite shiny you should post them (use [img] tags -- if they're overly large, resize first >.>).

I'm loving the pics of the mobo. If I had to redo my rig, I'd probably go with an ASRock mobo, too.

I also use an H50 in my rig -- word of warning. Figure out how to seat the cooler properly the first time. It's a gigantic pita having to reseat it (and having the possibility of air bubbles and the such for not getting a good seal the first time). There are some vids on youtube on how to mount it properly.

Re: ASRock P67 Extreme4 CPU Cooler?

I'm a new member, that's why I went with an external link to the pics. . . I wasn't sure if the site's moderators would be okay with a new member posting a lot of nested images, and I didn't want to step on any toes. Should I post the pics in this thread, or start a new thread? I'm happy to make an "ASRock Instructables" thread, with applicable pics, if you think anyone would find that of use.

Haha. We're all hardware nerds at heart, and like to admire each other's work You can do whatever you heart desires

Also, I wouldn't exceed 800x600 max for the pictures -- forums start to get buggy at larger image sizes.
