Monitor colours
I've had a small play around with the settings on my monitors and came across the colour intensity. The default is 6500k but at 9300k the picture appears more vivid but darker, which makes me wonder whether the clarity is just because it's a slightly darker image (ie: an illusion of better quality).
Initially, I was going to ask for advice on this but decided to have a few trial runs with online colour tests. It wasn't until I came across this gradient test that I found that the 6500k was indeed correct - 9300k displayed noticeable lines. No other tests that I ran up until that point gave me a definitive answer; blacks were distinguishable on 6500k and 9300k, colours looked fine, pretty much every other test was positive using both settings. Is there anything else notable about less-obvious monitor settings?

Re: Monitor colours
One thing to mind is the gamma level. Most consumer monitors don't have a native setting for it but then we have one in Windows 7 now. Run the "Calibrate display color" routine and look especially at the gamma level. Some monitors have better defaults than others, but gamma is oftenly a little bit off the ideal.
When quick-adjusting a monitor I look at this simpler page: http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal/ |

Re: Monitor colours
6500k is saposed to be a nuetral intensity... where as above that is saposed to be warmer and below that is cooler....
some people prefer warmer and others prefer cooler... i tend to just find myself sticking to the defaults....
