I'm thinking about switching from Intel to AMD cpu in Feb. I would like to hear from those of you that are using the AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu. Likes or dislikes. Using stock cooling fan or what are you using? ALL comments would greatly be welcomed!!!

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
Don't have the 6 core, but do have 2 unlocked X2 that are now X4 and they rock! Get a Black Edition no matter what you end up doing.

Stock fan can be noisy.

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
I didn't find the stock fan/heatsink that bad, but ended up with aftermarket anyways.... I read somewhere that the 6 core has a heatpipe type cooler, but probably has basically the same fan.

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
Here's a couple of pics of the stock HSF for my PhII X6 1090T BE
I've seen a number of reviews where they get pretty decent OC results with the stock BE HSFs

At stuck i dont find the stock hsf noisy at all, i built a system using the x6 1055t and 8 gb ram for use as a photoshop rig, and it runs great.
Later here in february im building a gaming rig for one of my friends, and its gonna contain a x6 1090t black edition and a hd 6850

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
mine is silent and i am running the Phenom 2 X4 3200mhz .... it's as if my computer is off my opinion on the new phenom processors is that they rock big time best mobo for the Phenom 2 in my opinion is the Asus M4A89TD PRO 890FX Socket AM3/usb3 .... the good thing about AMD is they don't chop and change their motherboards as much as intel ... your phenom 2 works with both AM2 & 3 motherboards

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
I probably tried running the fans at a much higher speed.
If you mean the AM2+, then yes, it's possible if the mobo manufacturer provided a microcode update. Although, many AM2+ processors only support the 95w or lower ones, and they would be "stuck" at HT 2.0. Might be limited, but it's still better than Intel in that aspect. |

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
Those temperatures are fine. Make sure to stress test it with Prime95 and LinX

Re: AMD Phenom II - 6 core cpu
Nice. Maybe make your own thread about it in the http://www.hardwareheaven.com/overclocking-modding/ forum though
