SDRAM 133mhz help?
I have a Pentium 3 computer. I want to buy SDRAM.
My Pc's configuration is here: HotShare - Viewing Specs.JPG I am currently having 256MB SDRAM in one slot. I want to buy 1Gb SDRAM (2 X 512mb). Should I buy a 32 X 8 (low density) or 64 X 4 (high density) SDRAM. Here are links to both: low density: PC133 LOW DENSITY 512MB 32X8 512 MB PC 133 SDRAM Memory (Rs. 1185) high density: 2 X 512MB PC133 SDRAM Memory 1GB 133Mhz 168-pin PC RAM (Rs. 1170) I want to buy a high density but will it support my PC. Re: SDRAM 133mhz help?
If you want to be on the safe side go with the 32M as that is what is currently in the system although we really can't tell you if the system supports 64M modules as we have no idea what the motherboard is given cpuid isn't reporting the model information all we have is the chipset and some information on the bios chip and version. Anyways without that I can't make any guarantees.
I would try to find out who made the board and see if you can get some information on the supported memory modules for it, but based on the modules in it the 32M ones will likely be supported as those are 32M modules in it now.

Itīs essential to know the brand and number of your motherboard

Re: SDRAM 133mhz help?
Dude, I'm sorry to sound like a stuck record, but I've said this before and I'll say it again.
Hardware to work in very old computers is expensive AND slow, and won't work in any new PC that you do eventually acquire. With the amount you seem to want to throw at that machine (I seem to remember threads about you upgrading the CPU and GPU...) you could be looking at a far more modern replacement PC.

Re: SDRAM 133mhz help?
If your dealin with SDram or DDR today.... it's almost not worthwhile anymore... the amount of money required to spend just to bump up those machines to 1gb or 2gb... is actually about 1/3 of what it would cost to replace it with a much faster and more capable netbook that would run circles around it... (DDR cases are a iffy situation.. but almost all SD RAM cases is a guarantee)
Now as far as just going ahead and getting memory... Really depends.... it seems to be a hit and miss senario in which no one here will REALLY know for certain on either case.... not without having the exact model.. and i would personally say that even under that case, it's strange how 2 identical machines will react differently for no apparent reason. I would just buy the cheaper of the 2... plug em in.. see if it fires up... I've an intel Pentium 2 with an intel board here that clearly states in the manual no modules over the size of 128mb in a 16MB x 8 configuration for a maximum size of 384mb of ram installed. However i've installed 3 of the 64MB x8 modules giving me 1.5gb of ram.. and the system works great. So even when the manufacturer clearly states something as not supported.... sometimes it work... pushing 5 TIMES what they say is the limit.... go figure. (mind you i've installed xp and vista/win7 on this machine too)

Re: SDRAM 133mhz help?
Sorry friend for keeping you wait for such a long time. Actually, I had ordered a low density 32X8 (512MB X 2 = 1Gb) SDRAM. Now, it will take a week more for it to reach me. Lets see what result comes. Thank you all for being active in this thread except me. Posting results as soon as possible.

Re: SDRAM 133mhz help?
I'm sorry to say, but you'll have problems with the RAM. The maximum amount of memory an i810 chipset can support is limited to 512MB, and only low density ram.
If you put a high density module of 512MB ram it can work sometimes, but only showing as 128MB. The maximum combination is 2 x 256MB (each double sided, 16 chip). If you have more then two slots, then some of them can only be populated with single sided modules (128MB, 8 chip).

It's hit and miss.. even if the manufacturers state that it can't support it.. only thing to do is try..
