Installing celeron processor
Hello! I have a Pentium 3 processor 866Mhz. I want to install a celeron processor into my mobo. My cpmputer specs are here:
HotShare - Viewing Specs.JPG I want to know that can I install a celeron. I am buying a celeron and that I am getting for very very cheap rates as it is used processor. Here are my choices: 1. Intel CELERON D 2.93GHz/256/533 SL7Q9 CPU Processor (link: eBay India: Intel CELERON D 2.93GHz/256/533 SL7Q9 CPU Processor (item 120681270862 end time 08-Mar-2011 15:07:14 IST)) 2.Intel Celeron 331 cpu LGA 775 2.66 GHz (link: eBay India: Intel Celeron 331 CPU LGA 775 2.66 GHz Used Warranty (item 110650881379 end time 20-Mar-2011 23:52:27 IST)) Which one should I install and how? Thanks in advance. I have this(below) kind of processor. But, the celeron I am planning to buy looks different. Will that fit in my mobo or are they same? This is not my actual PC photo. This is just an example. See images: 1. http://www.fonerbooks.com/replace/cpu_4.jpg 2. http://www.fonerbooks.com/replace/cpu_13.jpg Last edited by AshutoshM; Feb 28, 2011 at 01:55 PM. |

Re: Installing celeron processor
You'll need a new motherboard and RAM as well. There aren't any newer CPU's that fit with your current one. You could get a motherboard with integrated graphics to avoid having to pay for a new graphics card right away as well. In truth you're probably best off saving up for a whole new system given the age of the parts you have now. Sorry.

Re: Installing celeron processor
As said above, you won't be able to fit any modern parts into that system, and upgrading your motherboard to accomodate a new processor would involve upgrading many (if not all) other components too.

Re: Installing celeron processor
The Pentium 3 is socket370 - and even if you found a later (Tulatin core) Pentium 3, the motherboard may not support the lower core voltage - There were celeron models based on Tulatin core as well.
Practically, Socket370 is so "legacy" that any spare parts would be rare and highly overpriced because of it.

Re: Installing celeron processor
PC hardware to fit elderly systems is always prohibitvley expensive, and, of course, extremely slow.
