gaming mouse?
I've been thinking of getting a new gaming mouse for quite some time now, but the opportunity never arose. My MX518 has been working very well for a good number of years, and I just never had any reason to replace it. Newer shinier mice came out every year, and I kept track of the ones I wanted to try, and now it looks as though I have the perfect excuse:
I recently got a new laptop that did not have the Trackpoint I had grown so used to and the touchpad is driving me up a wall. So now I'm considering of using the faithful 518 with the lappy wherever it goes, and getting one of them newer fancier mice I've been dreaming of. Here are the things I've been looking at: Logitech's G500 - seems like the logical continuation CM Storm Sentinel Advance Mionix Naos 5000 If you've got any other mice in mind tell me, but keep in mind that I'm not at all interested in Razer mice. |

LOL
while PESOP are definitely a big step forward in humanity's technological advance, I am not convinced of just how reliable Razer's PESOP would be. ![]() PS Best user name ever. EDIT: he (very predictably) got banned. At least through his obvious trolling he got the thread some attention and votes. |

I had a Logitech G9. I tried CM Storm Sentinel Advance for months. I don't remember exact reasons why (search in my thread somewhere here), but I think it was a matter of comfort, but I changed back to the G9. The Naos 5000 looks like another brand, I can't remember which. I can't comment on it. What I am trying to say is, get the G9, or the G500 if you only can choose from those three. If you have the money, get the G9X. ![]() If you want many keys, then there are other solutions.

Re: gaming mouse?
Roccat Kone[+]. Best mouse we have tested to date (for general use and non specific gaming). Both Craig and I use one 24/7.

Re: gaming mouse?
Thanks for all the replies! I am not limited to only those 3 mice, but those are the ones i've been intrigued by. The G9 looks a bit short for my taste, and I've decided that if I do go the Logitech route the G500 would be my best bet.

Re: gaming mouse?
I thought I was bad averaging 6hrs a day, more on days off. 24/7 is hardcore.
I actually considered the RAT 9 for its customisability, despite its looks... My X8, however, hold its own rather well still. I'm a wireless mouse fan, personally. I constantly get annoyed with the cable when it touches anything, even with the slightest of touches; the feedback is distracting. Meanwhile, back at the plot... The Kone+ reviews rather well on all sites. I've never heard of Mionix. The G500 and Sentinel Avance seem pretty well on-par with each other. I bought a Sentinel Advance as a Christmas present last year and its doing very well for its owner; big hards, "claw grip", extra buttons without having too many, nice design. Tough choice out of the two.

Some days I work 36 hours but who is counting :P
PruritusAni, i'll ask Roccat if they have a recommended retailer for the US, then at least you have all the options open to you. |

Not to mention that I now have a decent amount of votes across a few sites. I'll put them together and see what the standings are so far. EDIT: So here are the standings so far: g500 8 cm 2 mionix 5 other 8 but there's no unity in the other, I think the most votes for anyone one mouse (kone[+]) added up to 2. So it looks like I will be getting the G500 to be my new mousing implement! Thanks all that voted. Last edited by PruritusAni; Mar 6, 2011 at 03:56 PM. |

Re: gaming mouse?
Of those 3 mice I would stay away from the G500. It may "feel" like the MX518/G5, but it doesn't track like either of them. I got rid of mine because it felt like the tracking/acceleration was off a bit. Can't explain it correctly, only that it bothered me, so I went back to the G5 for now.
Of the 2 that's left, the Naos 5000 would be my choice. Being a long time G5 user this mouse just felt right. Mind you I'm also a low palm / finger grip person (gaming I low palm, otherwise I finger grip), which is why the extra weight and the steeper palm of the Sentinel Advanced bothered me. If you're a high palm or claw grip then this should bother you, and either mouse would be a good choice. Speaking of which, what kind of "grip" do you use on the mouse? Do you use Palm (where you set your entire hand on the mouse, hand off the table (high palm), or wrist on the table (low palm)), Claw (the palm is up on the back of the mouse a bit, fingers in a "claw" shape.. you use your finger tips more to click), or Finger (you rest your wrist on the table controlling the mouse by your fingers, and depending on the size of you hand it may be hitting your palm or there will be a space between your mouse and the palm)? The reason this is important is that all the mice you have asked us to vote on are palm style, and are also decent for claw. Also, all three are weight adjustable which is perfect for palm and claw people, but not for finger styled (in my case, because I finger grip I have the weights in the G5 pretty low). Edit: Just wanted to mention that the Cooler Master Sentinel Advanced is probably the most friendly to all grip styles for people with large hands (with the exception of me mind you). Plus if you are a finger grip styled person look to the Logitech G9X instead. Although expensive it's a damn fantastic mouse for that style of grip.

Re: gaming mouse?
The CM Sentinel Advanced I do not advice at all if you are a claw/finger person. I am between the two. It's longer than it looks (not as bad as the first Sidewinter) and it is not comfortable if you use it like that.
As Tipstaff said the Logitech G9X is a terrific purchase in this case. Or if you find it at a good offer, the G9 (which I use) which should be cheaper now than the G9X. There is also the Cyborg RAT 7 which I would be willing to buy, but I have no idea how good of a mouse (performance) it is. Regardless, even if you went already ahead with the G500, I think you will be satisfied.

Re: gaming mouse?
I did order the g500 yesterday, so I will let you know how it works out for me once it gets here. I do happen to not be too finicky about my mice, as long as i have the adjustable dpi, thumb buttons and a comfy layout.
Oh, and I use the palm grip, as the other two are too stressful on my hand. Every now and then when i need a faster reaction time I may use the claw for a few seconds (mini camping sections ).

Re: gaming mouse?
Can I follow on and ask for opinions on the best wireless gaming mouse or would I have to start a new thread?
