Second Build, in 13 years.
Hey guys, I have listed below the components that i plan on buying for my new gaming rig, feel free to take a look and give recommendations.
ASUS P8P67 DELUXE - Motherboard EVGA GeForce GTX 580 - Video Card Click Corsair 750w - Power Supply Click Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz - CPU G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) - RAM CORSAIR CWCH60 - CPU cooler As far as i am concerned i am only missing one part and that would of course be the computer case. Feel free to give recommendations on a case. |

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
unless you are going to use a flash drive to format the system, you will at least need a disk drive, you will also need a HDD to format to.
as for cases, a simple yet full featured one is the Cooler Master 690 II case, i enjoy using it and every system i built with one has received much praise

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Seagate Barracuda XT drives and WD Caviar Blacks have all been good in my experience, for a monitor,
i hear that most 120hz monitors sacrifice image quality for double the refresh rate. if anything, i recommend just buying the one with the best warranty

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
+1 for the Cooler Master 690II case.
I had the original 690 for my last build, built a system recently for my #2 son using the 690II Basic, and have a 690II Advanced for my new system. The original 690 was a great case, and the II's are even better. They aren't flashy if that's what you want. They have a pretty much understated styling, but have really great features where it actually counts. Built for go, not show.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
can't beat the 690 II
Coolermaster 690 II vs Coolermaster 690 Cases i haven't installed a single floopy drive in a computer for a few years now... provided with USB Flash drives that are 3.0 spec.. i wouldn't even bother with DVD drives anymore if i could do it.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Well obviously while i like my silverstone Raven 02...... it has one MASSIVE flaw..... have to remove the guaddamn motherboard to change the hardrives or remove the hardrive bay...... pretty damn stupid... that and the fact that you can't use the top optical drive bay for most devices because it comes to close to the motherboard (would be fine if it was say 1 or 2 inches longer...)
But as a cheap but very very decent case without going all bells and whistles out... it simply cannot be beat yet.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
I haven't needed to remove my motherboard to change around the hard drives. I just take out the bottom three front panels and slide out the cage from the front of the case, as it was designed to do.
As for the top bay, I did use it for the memory card reader but now it's home to the front USB 3 panel that came with the Extreme 6.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
i hate taking the front panels out of the case..... i shouldn't have to do that...... why didn't they design the damn drive bay so there was no sliding involved from a front to back point of view.... it should have been able to slide right out the side.... tons of other easier solutions.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
It would be nice if there was a case that had a LCD fan contoller. I realize that your can buy a separate fan control and install into a 3.5 or 5.25 bay but, to tell you the truth...I'm just too lazy to sit down and figure out which fan goes with which.
Any suggestions? |

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Haha, I'm not talking about a Level 10 Thermaltake case. But in that case, I guess I could sit down and figure out the controls.
Have any good fan controllers, that you can reccomend? |

You might want to look at an SSD for your boot drive, too

Also, I don't know if you've heard of a brand called NZXT but they make some pretty cool cases. What do you thing about their Lexa S? It has a lot of features. I also found this NZXT case that was discontinued, but man does it look cool! Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
NZXT cases are good, but varied, so just do your reading (of reviews) and you'll be fine
![]() And how come you're willing to spend £400 on a GPU but not £80 on an SSD? It'd probably be a better system if you saved £80 somewhere else to allocate to a cheap SSD, which would still give monstrously faster loading times than a high end HDD.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Hmm, ill consider it, but right now we are in the process of moving to another state. Once we get settled in, i will order the parts, do some benchmarks, take some pictures, and buy a chinchilla.

Sounds good mate
I would honestly see if I could hold off on the chinchilla and invest in a SSD, but to each their own :PGluck with the move!

Haha, which brings me to my next point....
15,000 RPM Boot Drive or SSD? |

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
15000RPM HDDs aren't really worth it anymore. SSDs are a lot faster, and with comparable £ per GB.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Definitely go with a SSD, much faster. What you should do is get a small SSD that can fit your installed games and your OS and then get a larger magnetic drive for storing music and other things.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Haha, this is all new to me; I am still using IED Harddrives! And I am still stuck on a case, I want something that has a lot of features but is flashy at the same time. Any recommendations for a 3D monitor?
-Thanks |

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
For a case I'd suggest the Cooler Master 690II case, good value for money. And it looks awesome too.

Re: Second Build, in 13 years.
Bit of a no-name brand, at least in the UK...
I'd tend to associate no-name cases with sharp edges, dodgy connectivity, poor build quality, limited compatibility... It might be a well known brand for all that I know, but be sure to find some independent advise from people who've used it (not reviews on Newegg, people are biased in favour of things that they have spent money on as they feel the need to justify it to themselves).
