HP Pavilion Elite E9290F won't post

So a friend of mine was having issues with his video card (GTX 260) overheating. He owns an HP Pavilion Elite E9290F with an i7 920 and 9gb of ddr3. The comp is out of warranty anyway so I tell him he might think about transplanting into a new case. He gets an Antec 902 and a new SeaSonic X650 Gold PSU to replace the 460W hp PSU.

Now that we have transplanted it, the comp will not POST. It will turn itself on and off repeatedly. Spooling the fans off and on. The light on the old PSU even turns off and on (Seasonic has no LED).

Tried taking it all out of the case and bringing it down the bare essentials (video card, cpu, ram) but still nothing. Naturally I thought it was the PSU so I tried the old one but to no avail. The mobo does beep when we pull out the RAM but only when connected to the old PSU not the Seasonic.

Tried clearing the CMOS with the jumper and the battery. Tried different power cables. Tried different power outlet. Tried different RAM (6 sticks). Only thing not tried was an alternate video card. Its fan spools up with the PSU too.

I think its the motherboard. Please tell me there is something I'm missing. I feel pretty bad because I thought it would be easy just moving the components.

Here is a link to the computer.

Re: HP Pavilion Elite E9290F won't post

Okay. Please get the specs of that psu. Although I think that rig should run on 460W, it's cutting it close typically. Please check and see what the amps on the 12V rail are, or even better, its entire specs/link to specs.

I'm thinking there's not enough power for the system, but there could be a few different things.

The PSU was replaced with a Seasonic X650 Gold. It was posting and working fine before replacing the old 460W.

Re: HP Pavilion Elite E9290F won't post

Replaced the motherboard with an ASUS Sabertooth X58. No POST. The CPU and DRAM LED's light up on the board. Then the CPU light went off and now just the DRAM light is on. Tried using the MemOK! feature and it failed. Tried swapping with different RAM and still no POST. Sent the board back for another. Apparently this is not the first time the LED's have been wrong for other owners of the Sabertooth board.

This is getting old. I'd hate to think it's the CPU. I don't have another one to test. Hope I have better luck with yet another board.
