Razer Spectre questions

Next month I am going to have to buy a new mouse (My G9 is clearly dying) and because I prefer the dimensions of the G9 but don't want to get another G9 yet, I am focusing on buying the Razer Spectre. My problem with it is, well, this short video review.

YouTube - ‪Razer Spectre Review‬‏

Can people who have used this mouse give me input on how accurate he is?

Re: Razer Spectre questions

You know I like Razer gear as much as the next guy (unless the next guy is the guy in the video) but I cannot recommend the Spectre. When I reviewed it the main issue I found was the shape, the spec is ok but the shape is very uncomfortable with the back left corner digging into my palm all the time. It also feels too light for my liking... like its empty sort of light.

For that price you would be better going for an alternative model... see if you can stretch the extra £10 or so for a Roccat Kone[+] I would say.

Spectre user experience is half way down the page: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...xperience.html

Re: Razer Spectre questions

Thank you for your input.

That's too bad.

I use a hybrid claw-palm style, but I have my hand further to the back, so I tend to prefer mice which are short, wide and not over 11cm in length. So the very back of the mouse the furthest it comes in contact with my hand is the top of the palm before it reaches the fingers. I use that small part of the palm for basic movement and the fingers for the "details". Which makes mice with length over 11-11.5cm, an issue. The Sentinel Storm (not the latest model you just reviewed, the previous one) which has about the same length as the Kone[+] is too long. So, unfortunately the Kone+ is out of the question for me.
I know I limit my choices a lot, but...

Now, a G9 shape mouse with about 1.5cm more width and a proper pinky rest, that would be perfect for me, but that doesn't exist.

If you or anyone has a suggestion, please feel free to share

Re: Razer Spectre questions

Dont know what the measurements are off the top of my head but check out what length the Cyborg R.A.T. 7 is at its shortest (length is adjustable) and from memory the CM Storm Spawn was pretty short too.

Both have pinky rests.

Nice mouse, more suited to mobile than desktop use I feel though. Could just be be me but it does have the feel of a mobile mouse and I couldnt imagine using it 24/7.

Yeah, I am afraid of that.
I removed the extra grip from my G9, so the dimensions now are closer (I think) to the Orochi. I plan to use it like that for a day or so and see how it is.

The R.A.T. 7. is very good but it is close to 100 euros here and that would mean not buying anything else for a month (or more depending on the super economy here). Which is double the price in the USA.

The CM Spawn looks good and at a very good price. The things I don't like about it are the 3 DPI settings which you can't change and that it is an optical mouse.

yes, I know, I am very picky.

Re: Razer Spectre questions

It's people like BluMak that I feel the RAT series wins out on; its customisation allows for any type of user. Even I found a mode that I find most comfortable and I usually just adapt to any mouse (which I generally have to do as I go between several PCs per day).
I will have to point out a few things, some of which are brutally obvious already.
  • The RAT 7 is wired, which, to some, is preferred to wireless. There are a few down sides to the RAT 7, which they improved with the RAT 9. For example, the main grip, apparently, is loose. You can easily find out the cons.
  • The price. 'nuff said.
  • The RAT 9 takes a little getting used to as far as changing the battery is concerned. However, I've found that this is akin to having a new pair of trainers; it needs "breaking in". It doesn't wear down from use but it does get more fluid after you change the battery a few times.
  • The sensitivity is, perhaps, a little too sensitive. A 10" subwoofer makes it difficult to navigate the screen with the mouse cursor whilst its in use.
  • No horizontal scroll.
  • The pros out-weigh the cons. Yes, despite what I've mentioned, I'm solidly happy with my choice. This mouse is going to stick around for some time.
This is just my input. I'd recommend a RAT series primarily for the customisability factor, considering you are (quite rightly so) picky.
