Intel i3 1155 + Asus P8H67-M EVO goodness (amazing boot speeds)
So i've finally managed to steer clear of all the 1155 southbridge issues and avoid any of the hiccups that occured... and for a customer finally build one of my first 1155 systems.
yeah yeah... been awhile since i had to build a machine.... meh... better for me.. labours nicer anyways... plus once i build a machine.. rarely ever do i have to see it again (at least for years, and usually only after then for a memory upgrade or something) anywho... long story short. I had been using the P7H55-M Pro for all my previous builds (mostly) which is the 1156 socket.. I decided on the P8H67-M Evo due to it having HDMI+DVI+VGA+Display port... making it very versatile in all old and new or coming soon displays.. Another factor is the slew of other additional features, Realtek Audio on it as well. EFI Bios is damn nice... but as i understand it almost all of the 1155 boards are now EFI... Still the board features quite a number of things which make it rock. Loving the fact that Raid is now a common standard on all the boards today almost. Would have liked for all the SATA ports to be Sata III.. but that's ok with only the first 2... Anywho... being able to compare the 2 systems side by side.... a Intel i3 530/540 vs an intel i3 2100 with identical ram, identical drives, identical power supplies, identical everything else.. basically just the cpu and motherboard has changed.... is like night and day. Quite happy with the results. But the most shocking thing to me is.... boot times... Same hardrives, yet boot times are completely different... i'm going to assume that EFI has the biggest impact on this. I tried to use a stopwatch to get the times down pat.. Both systems setup using the ACHI mode with latest Rapid Storage driver But fully loaded for both machines... the new machine is booted into windows (from the time that the POST screen disappears on both systems, to the point where the mouse pointer shows up and everything in the task bar is loaded) is quite significant.. the older i3 530/540 board boots in approximately 36 seconds the new one does it in approximately 14 seconds Pretty damn wild difference...
