UPS
Cause I know almost nothing about them, what would I need to protect (and let it work for at least a couple of minutes) my PC including monitor?

Re: UPS
I would imagine that as long as you pack it well... like loads of bubble wrap and a sturdy box, it will get from place to place ok. DHL tend to be a little better though.

Thanks, although I was thinking that perhaps something like this might be a bit better.

Re: UPS
Looks good to me BlueMak. Not sure about the brand though, never heard of them.
I presume it comes with the cables to connect those power outputs to your monitor/PC - I've not seen a female to male cable of that type before, only ever power socket to PC/monitor.

Re: UPS
Those cables are fairly "common" but not in general use anymore...... Years ago everybody turned on their monitor via the PSU in the computer that way.
You know, back in the caveman days.

Re: UPS
From my experience, the best UPS manufacturer is APC. We use it where I work.
I don't own one myself because they're a little expensive... Anyway, when buying you should watch for the same things as PSU (i.e. real capacity), since the declared one is not always what it is... Also overvoltage protection (AVR, OVP) is a must.. and USB connection with PC is a nice thing to have... Check also if the battery is replaceable, or you will have to buy a new one when the battery weakens (usually after cca 3 years) I currently have a Nova AVR 625VA which holds my current system about 15min. even though its a year old now. Re: UPS
Thanks guys. The cost for anything good enough is way too high. Much higher than expected. From next Monday we are going to have rolling blackouts, I will have to rely on my surge protected sockets than a UPS lol. Wish me luck.

Re: UPS
Holy crap oO
That due to strikes at power stations or something? Or a lack of fuel to put in them? Also, what made you think that the one that you originally linked wasn't good enough?

Because it looks like it is built in such a way to directly plug in the PSU in it. That's not what I need. I need one with at least a couple of sockets to plug in computer, monitor, external drives, PS3, Xbox 360 at the same time.

I was thinking perhaps that if the government had a fuel shortage (perhaps due to inability to borrow to buy it) they'd be turning off power stations periodically to conserve what fuel they had. Anyway, good luck!

Re: UPS
If you know you've got a blackout (ie: Something that doesn't automatically shut down your PC) you can go for something like this. Presumably the wattage is insufficient but that should put you on the right track.

Re: UPS
The problem is the cost, I would probably need something about 700W to be safe, but anything close to that costs at least 150 euros + if you are lucky.
Thank you, but I will just have to take my chances. Blibbax, I don't know about other countries, but, the government doesn't buy fuel for the companies. As for the particular company, it has its own resource gathering facilities (for example coal, etc).

I meant state run power stations, I've no idea whether or not you have any though.

Re: UPS
Personally...... if you can afford it.... it's worth EVERY DAMN PENNY to go with an APC made UPS..
and depending on your machine..... nothing less then 600VA model... best if you can snag one with a built in LCD that can give you a volt/watt/amp/hz/input/output/minutes remaining and load information. APC's warranty is out of this world as well... not to mention their guarantee to replace anything and everything reguardless of the cost IF their unit doesn't do it's job. Ever since the one lightning strike that blew up one of my customers machines that i had sold them a APC UPS with, i've been quite impressed and happy.... APC replaced the unit with a new one.. and sent them a cheque with the exact value of all the equipment that was connected to it even if some of it was quite old.. (provided that you kept the receipts) The guy had spent about $2000 on the computer.. but kept an old printer and speakers... the speakers were fairly cheap.. but the printer he had paid nearly $600 for years ago was paid in full as well... not to mention he had a LCD 37" Inch HDTV that he had bought and used with it for nearly 4 years.. it was only a 720p tv.. but orginal retail on it when it was purchased was almost $5000.... APC Paid out a wopping $9600 by the time everything was caculated. And it was done within a short period of time... Unit was registered prior. the unit was boxed up in it's charred state in the orginal box with the pass code slips and such.... a copy of the purchase receipt was sent along with it back to apc. apc had also requested that all the orginal receipts for the connected devices that were damaged to be sent along with it. 5 weeks later... cheque arrived with a brand new APC ups newer model.
